Writing about all the big & little things
I took Maddie in this morning for her 6 month check up.
She weighs 21 pounds 13 oz and is 29.25 inches tall. I haven’t checked the other kids stats, but I expect them to be almost identical. We’re keeping right in line with her clothing needing to be double her age which was exactly what happened with Chloe. So she fits wonderfully in 12 month clothes right now.
She is busting out of her car seat, so once she is sitting up just a tiny bit more securely, we’re going to transition her to the next backwards facing carseat. Speaking of car seat I got to wondering how much that monster weighs, now that I know she is almost 22 pounds. Seriously, that thing feels like it weighs 50 pounds as I lug it around on my arm. I can’t wait until she can walk! Anyway, when I got home I weighed it on my scale. It only came to 34 pounds. I admit I was a little disappointed. Now I just feel like a pansy. 😉
Madison is officially a rolling machine. She rolled a few months back and then was uninterested in doing it again. Not long after that, she found her feet, and they were much more interesting than rolling. But just after Christmas she (re)discovered that she really does want to roll and loves it. She gets all giggly after she rolls–she’s so proud of herself.
In other Maddie news her two bottom teeth popped through the day after Christmas as well. She’s had the flushed cheeks and excessive drool for a bit now, so it was nice to see it was actually leading to something. 😉
I need to schedule her 6 month check up to find out how she’s doing. I keep forgetting…
Before you read about how sad and unhappy Maddie has been I thought I would make you smile with adorable picture of Chloe from this weekend. We attended Pajama Birthday Brunch Party and the kids got to wear their jammies. It was super cute. (She has donut in her mouth… haha!)

Maddie has been a bit off for the past couple of days. I had chalked it up to teething or just having a mild cold or the fact that she had started on solids… but it wasn’t adding up. Last night she (and in turn Tim and I) slept TERRIBLY. She would wake up every 30-45 min. crying out in pain. You should know that she doesn’t normally cry much at all, so this was even more alarming to us. We were able to get her into the doctor’s office this morning and he discovered her right ear is filled with puss. Luckily it doesn’t sound like it is a ridiculously bad infection and it’s contained to just one ear. So she’s on medication now and we’re hoping she’s feeling better soon. I don’t think she has a very high pain threshold, so the ear infection was making every other “little” annoyance or uncomfortable thing–like gas bubbles–unbearable for her. Hence the screaming out last night. At least, that’s what I’m guessing. With babies it’s always a guess.
I’m glad this is happening now and not on our family trip over Thanksgiving–no one will be fighting to hold her if she screaming! 😉
That’s right, Maddie is officially eating “solids” now. I have to laugh, because the solids are really just mush, but it’s still working towards eating regular food. We video recorded the first time she tried the rice cereal, but it was pretty anti-climatic, so I won’t post that video. She really didn’t seem to care one way or the other. We’ll need to work on that tongue control of bringing the food INto her mouth, but she really didn’t do all that bad on her first try. She definitely likes the attention she gets when she’s in the high chair though, so I think starting on solids will be a happy experience for her.
