Writing about all the big & little things

A busy time for everyone!

I’ve been checking around and it appears that a lot of people have a lot of stuff going on right now! Summer is definitely in full swing and that means busy, busy, busy!

And the same goes for us. Although I can’t say what exactly has been keeping me so busy lately… but I know I go to bed tired and my to do list is only getting marginally shorter every day!

Here are a few pictures from the past week or so…

We went to the beach!

JD loved the water... he was happy even though he was eventually shivering!

And guess who's walking now? Video coming this week!

And his new favorite toy...

it's so much fun!

I had a lot of pictures of JD so I thought I would put one more up of Chloe. 🙂

And then Chloe got Chicken Pox…

So this morning as I was helping Chloe get dressed I noticed a little sore on her hip and I asked her about it.  She said, “Oh, yeah, it was really itchy last night.”  I didn’t think much about it until I noticed another red spot on her arm.  And another on her leg.  And two more on her shoulder blade….

Yup, Chloe appears to have Chicken Pox.

We knew the day would come.  We purposely didn’t get her vaccinated so she could just get it naturally.  I’m actually hoping that Josiah will also get it so we can not have to worry about it again (unless we have more kids someday).  So, we’ll see.

So far it’s nothing serious.  She has a little over a dozen spots all over her body and she’s pretty good about not itching them.  I’m thinking she’ll have a lot more when she wakes up tomorrow, though… 🙂

Ah, the excitement never ends!

My motivation is a very fickle thing

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as much lately.  I’ve found that since Tim is back to work I’m finding my motivation is a very fickle thing.  Some days I feel like I can conquer the world and I get TONS done.  And then other days I feel completely overwhelmed and all I want to do is sit on the couch and eat junk food all day.  I know, I know, we probably all have weeks like this… so I’m sure many of you can relate.  🙂

Things otherwise have adjusted just fine to the work season again.  The kids are finally adjusted to waiting for Tim to come home at supper, and they (a.k.a. Chloe) don’t ask where he is anymore throughout the day.  They’ve also adapted nicely to having a nanny here in the afternoons.  And for the most part they are sleeping much better throughout the day.  Josiah’s naps had been a bit wishy-washy at the end of Tim’s off season, but he’s settled into a wonderful groove now.  The only battle we’re still tackling is Josiah waking up at night to “talk” to Chloe.  So for now she gets to sleep in our closet.  Everyone is sleeping better and waking up happier.

I had a bit of a pity party for myself this morning and I decided that I didn’t want to exercise (insert whiny voice here… “I don’t waaaaaaaaaaanna exercise…. “) so Chloe and I sat on the couch and watched pointless t.v. and ate popcorn for a half hour.  At which point I realized what a lazy bum I was really being…  So, we went outside and mowed the lawn and pulled the chairs out of storage for the patio set and made chicken for lunch and got the laundry going and even walked over to the school to (re)fill out her registration form for class that they apparently lost.

But that brings me back to my motivation… it sits in such a fragile place.  Just the mention of a candy bar or rich creamy chocolate cheesecake… mmmmmmmm… cheesecake….   mmmmmm………….. wait, where was I?  Right.  motivation.  I have to laugh at myself at how quickly I feel like giving in and eating whatever I want.  It’s pretty ridiculous actually.  Ah, well.  I’m still working through it.

At least God gave me a daughter who is a constant “do-er” like me.  I said to her yesterday, Chloe I don’t want to exercise.  And she looked at me and said, “but Mom, you HAVE to exercise.”  It made me smile.  And at that point she went into the living room and waited on the couch for me to start my workout video.  When I didn’t emerge from my studio to exercise a few minutes later she yelled to me, “Mom, you need to come out and exercise now!  I’m waiting!”

Ah, yes.  I need a good push now and then.  🙂

Grown up braids!

I finally french braided Chloe’s hair for the first time–all of it!  I think she looks so grown up… see…

So excited!

Don't they look awesome!?!

I just have to make sure I’m very careful when I’m braiding since her hair so so fine and slippery.  One wrong move and the whole braid falls right through my fingers and unravels!  🙂

Ballet with the MN Orchestra

In our balcony seats waiting for the ballet to start!

This afternoon Chloe and I were invited to go to the Ballet performed with the MN Orchestra at Orchestra Hall.  Kristen won tickets and she had two extra so we got to tag along with her and Abby and Kailynn.  It was a family themed performance so there were gobs of kids everywhere.  The performance fell right smack dab in the middle of when Chloe usually takes a  nap so I was a bit worried about how well she would sit quietly… but she actually did very well for a 3 year old.  🙂

Walking through the skyway to orchestra hall!

And, I’m not positive, but I think one of my piano students was one of the ballet dancers.  I know that she dances with the company but we were pretty far away from the stage and I couldn’t see very clearly… but it sure looked like her.  I’ll ask her when she’s here this week.  🙂
