Writing about all the big & little things

More Transitions

I admit I feel a little guilty writing about “transitions.”

You see, things changing in our household are nothing compared to the transitions going on in other members of my family…   Nathan and his family just moved to a new state…  And he also started a brand new job this week…  And Kylene started a new job this week as well…  And Luke & Krista are getting used to the idea of welcoming a new baby in just a few months!

But, these are the (somewhat less exciting) transitions that are going on at our household right now.

Josiah has officially outgrown his infant car seat.

Notice how his feet hang over the end...

He has been a giant in the seat for quite some time now, but he finally maxed out the weight limit.  (As well as the length limit evidenced by his feet hanging off the end in the picture above!)  So, with much dragging of my feet, I’ve moved him to the backward 5-point-harness seat.   This means that when I take him into stores he has to sit in the cart.  Which might be a tad bit problematic for the next couple of weeks since he hasn’t completely mastered sitting up by himself… but this will give him good practice.  🙂

They are growing up so fast!

Also, we’ve been working on transitioning JD into the crib in Chloe’s room.  This change is taking a bit longer (with a bit more frustration).  Chloe has to get used to his noises and try to ignore him when he wakes up at 5:00 a.m. to talk to himself for a bit.   It hasn’t been going well, and we all know that I get crabby without sleep 😉  so tonight Chloe is sleeping in our closet and JD will be in the big crib.  We’re hoping by tomorrow that they’ll be able to be in the same room again.  The good news is that Chloe LOVES having him in her room.  In fact, if he starts crying during the night she’ll start singing (sometimes VERY loudly) from her bed to comfort him.   Yes, yes, I know that’s simply adorable–unless it’s 2:30 in the morning and I want to sleep!

Anyway, we knew it was due time for this change when his feet and head reach both sides of the bassinet… and when he could swing his leg over the side while lying on his back…

So, alas, like it or not, change comes.  🙂

Recital Pictures!

Today was a bit of a busy first day off so I haven’t had time to sit and write about the recital.   I figured that you all cared more about the pictures rather than my babbling anyway… 🙂

The best family picture of the night--it was a bit tricky getting JD to look and Chloe to sit still after all the sugar she had (I'm pretty sure she had at least 3 slices of cake)!

Our bi-annual recital picture sitting at the piano!

My awesome kids!

Kailynn and Chloe--adorable cousins!

My two handsome guys!

My favorite picture of Chloe & JD!

Chloe was SUPER excited to be able to wear her special white dress again--and I was thrilled to find a cute little blue sweater "thing" to keep her warm!

A kiss on Daddy's cheek!

And finally, a great picture of the Greenhalgh family. They LOVED holding JD and playing with Chloe!

Disney on Ice

Today Tim and Patsy took the younger cousins to a Disney on Ice performance.  It featured the “Princesses” which we thought would be a big hit with the little girls–although Logan had a bunch of cool things to tell me about it when he got back too.   🙂

Here’s a picture of the four kiddos all waiting nicely in their chairs waiting for it to start!  (He took it with his phone so the picture is a bit blurry.)

All bundled up and ready for the show!

I think it was such a nice outing for the kids–and it gave Chloe a chance to spend time with Logan and Allison who she doesn’t get to see very often.  Tim said it was good, but a tad long (2 hours) so the kids started to get a bit restless.  On the way home they stopped by McDonald’s and brought home Happy Meals for the kids to eat at our house.  So they all filed in and had a fun lunch together before the other three had to go home.

While they were gone JD and I worked more on candy for my students.  I’m almost done now–I should be able to finish on Sunday.

Tomorrow is a crazy day, though… We have worship team rehearsal, then a morning make-up lesson, 2 afternoon lessons, a Christmas musical at the church down the street (I’m just going to watch–I have a bunch of students in it) and then a church women’s Christmas party.  And somewhere in there I need to make a trip to the grocery store to make an appetizer to bring to the Christmas party.  Yikes!  I better get to bed soon!

JD = 4 Months Old

(Note: I actually wrote this post yesterday night and apparently forgot to click “publish”  Whoops! Oh, well, I guess there will be two posts for today!)

Tim took JD to his 4 month check up this morning.  I actually had another MMTA contest meeting so he had to take both kids for his appointment.

For those who are wondering, here are his stats:

Weight = 18 pounds 14 ounces (97%)

Height = 27 1/4 inches (98%)

Head = (55%) or something like that.  We’re not as concerned with is head size as long as he’s cute.  Hehe.

Tomorrow I’m planning to get to the store and pick up some rice cereal to give him solids for the first time.  I’m sure I’ll have some messy pictures to post soon!  🙂

Too much love?

Ahh! So much love!

Chloe (bless her little heart) loves JD so very much.   And we’ve said from the beginning, that she may actually love him too much if that’s possible.  I’m constantly amazed that the novelty of having a baby around hasn’t worn off.  She’ll still ask to hold him and she wants to do everything that she sees us do (talk to him, kiss him, tickle him…).  And for the most part he doesn’t mind at all.  In fact, he seems to genuinely enjoying having her attention.  If he’s upset and I can’t get to him right away I’ll ask Chloe to go and sing to him or read him a book and it does the trick.

It’s precious.

I love my kids.

Another update on JD

I took JD back to the doctor today.  He was in last Wednesday and they said he had bronchiolitis (which is really just a bronchial infection) so we started him on the nebulizer.  The doctor told Tim if he didn’t make any improvement over the next week we should bring him back in–so we did.   But it sounds like it’s just something he’s going to have to fight his way through.  The good news is that he doesn’t appear to have any other symptoms than a cough.  He’s in delightful spirits, he’s still eating well and sleeping pretty well, so we’re not worried.  The doctor said it’s just going to take time for the cough to go away (he said a couple weeks).  So… we’ll give it some more time.  I just wanted to be sure we took him in before it developed into something else.

The funniest part is that we’ll actually be going back to the doctor’s this coming Tuesday for his 4 month well-child visit.  I guess they’ll be seeing a lot of JD this month!  🙂
