Writing about all the big & little things

Third night is NOT the charm…

Last night JD woke up again at 5:00.  And apparently he thought it was time to start the day because he then proceeded to eat and talk VERY LOUDLY in his crib for the next 20 minutes.  At least I think it was 20 min.  I was very sleepy and lost track of the time.  I just know it was a long  time… and very early…

And speaking of loudly he seems to be getting louder by the day.  I don’t remember Chloe shouting as much as he does.  He’s not unhappy most of the time, but he certainly wants to be heard.  Jen said it nicely tonight “He’s discovered his voice.”    JD and I had a nice long conversation this afternoon and I tried to explain how to use his “inside voice” , but he didn’t seem to take to it… 🙂

And make that TWO nights in a row!

JD slept through the night AGAIN last night!  I am so excited to start getting back to nights of uninterrupted sleep.  It’s been literally months since I’ve slept from night till morning.  By the end of the pregnancy I would be up at least 4 times a night to use the bathroom or help Chloe go potty… then with a newborn I was up at least 3 times a night to feed (and again to help Chloe go potty)… and now I’m trying to get Chloe to get up to go potty by herself so I don’t have to get up to tuck her back into bed.  Once we have that mastered I will finally be able to sleep soundly again.  It’s funny–you would think with 2 nights of JD sleeping through the night that I would feel well rested, but I’m still just as drained as ever.  It’s just proof that you can’t just catch up after months and months of interruptions.  🙂

In other news, it’s been so warm here in the past week that we’ve actually had to turn our air conditioning on.  Can you believe that?  Air conditioning in October?  I have been enjoying the cooler mornings, though.  I just love the feeling of lounging in the morning in a cozy sweatshirt with the window open and a nice cup of hot coffee…   Someone told me the other day that they heard this winter was going to be brutal again.  We’ll just have to wait and see!

8 1/2 hours!

That right folks, last night Josiah slept from 10:30 until 7:00 this morning!   He’s 11 weeks old which is great–not quite as early as Chloe’s first night, but every child is different, right?  I actually woke up around 6:30 thinking it was 4:30 and waited restlessly for him to wake up… so when I finally got up and realized it was 7:00 and not 5:00 I was thrilled.

Now, I don’t expect him to sleep through the night consistently yet, but now I know it’s definitely on the horizon!  Yippie!

He’s turning into such a big boy!  And if you weren’t convinced–here’s proof!  (Left: 5 days; Right: 2.5 months)

A quick post (before Tim finds out I’m not working on bills like I should be…)

Things are still a bit harried around here for me.  Luckily the craziness should be on the way out next week, since I only have one more music seminar to go to on Tuesday.  Then I’ll have one more free morning each week which will be AMAZINGLY nice.  So, after next week I’m hoping life will slow a bit.   The weeks have been passing so quickly I can’t keep track these days!

Everyone here is doing fine.  We’ve managed to bypass the first round of sicknesses (knock on wood).  I know the second round is coming soon, but for now we’re taking our vitamin C (which Chloe just LOVES!) and I’m sanitizing a lot.  Chloe is back to staying dry during her naps again–it seems to just have been a short lapse after JD was born.  JD has solidified into a lovely routine which is wonderful not only for me, but for the countless people we have had babysitting lately.  He is almost sleeping through the night.  He goes down about 10:00 and sleeps until around 5:00.  And after a quick bottle he’s back to sleep for another couple hours when we all get up.

Tim hurt his foot last week and it was really bothering him.  It took a few days to figure out what he had done to it… he thinks it was from a big dig-out job he did where he was using a shovel all day.  The repetition of kicking the shovel into the ground must have tweaked a nerve or bruised the ball of his foot.  He’s doing much better this week.  It was so bad last week he had a hard time walking when he got home from work.

The leaves are falling in force these days.  I spent a little time in the yard yesterday which was all for naught.  As soon as I would finish a section I would look back and it would be just as covered as when I started!  Ah, yes, ’tis fall…  The colors really have been gorgeous this year.  I’ve been meaning to take a few picture for Kylene, but I haven’t had time to get out.  Maybe this weekend…

Well, I need to get back to being productive.  I have a rare 30 min. break here since I had a cancellation, so I should use it to my advantage.  🙂

Happy Friday everyone!

Tummy Time!

So, I thought it would be fun for those of you who can’t see JD in person right now to enjoy a little video.  Ignore my high pitched “baby talk” voice… usually it makes him smile like crazy when I talk to him like that, but he was getting hungry and tired I guess.

Seventeen and a half pounds

17.5 pounds.  Yup, that’s how much JD weighs now.  No wonder he seems like a chubby munchkin to me–he is!

🙂

And now for some random Thursday thoughts:

♦  I’m soooooo glad tomorrow is Friday.  I have a lot of catch up cleaning and organizing to get done.

♦  It was downright cold today!

♦  So it sure gets dark early, huh?

♦  We made pumpkin pancakes today for lunch in honor of Fall.

♦  So far I’ve been pleased with the vibrant colors as the trees change.  They say this will be the most beautiful fall in years.

♦  Josiah will have a nursery class to go to next week for BSF.  I’m so happy to not have to worry about having him with me during class…

♦  Can you believe we’re only one day away from October already?

♦  I’ve had hankering to make a pumpkin pie today.  Don’t worry, I didn’t.  🙂

2 Months Old

So happy to be 2 months old! Plus his outfit is awesome... hehe

It’s hard to believe JD is 2 months–in some ways I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone, and in other ways he seems so much older than 2 months already.  I still have memories of what life was like without him, but I find I feel weird if I don’t have him with me.  Like yesterday Chloe and I were walking to the car after church (Tim had taken JD to the church office to ask a question) and it felt so strange to only have Chloe to worry about.  It’s amazing how suddenly having one child to keep track of or tote around seems like such a treat after normally having two.

Tonight he had a strange crying/screaming rampage after supper.  It was actually just after Jen arrived to drop off something and tried to hold him (poor Jen!)… and he proceeded to scream bloody murder for a good hour I would say.  It’s hard for me to really know, since I was teaching… Tim guesses it was just really bad gas.  After a while he wore himself out and fell asleep.  Poor little guy.  I have memories of Chloe going through the same thing when she was about this old with the nanny.  At least Tim was home to take care of things.  🙂

Uh oh…

Caught in the act!

It appears we might have a thumb sucker on our hands.  Just today he’s been intent on sleeping with his thumb in his mouth.  When we take it out and put his nuk in, he proceeds to spit it out and put his own thumb back in.

Just more proof that every kid is different…

And speaking of JD, today we put him in a brand new 6 month outfit (a gift–that he promptly pooped out of at church by the way) and it fit perfectly.  At this rate he’ll be past 12 month clothes by Christmas!

Pictures, pictures, pictures!

Adorable vest, adorable smile...
