Writing about all the big & little things

Time for “Well-Child” check-up’s!

This morning the kids had their check-up’s:  Chloe’s 3 year and JD’s 2 month.  Technically they’re both at the wrong time… Chloe’s is one week late and JD’s is one week early, but this way they allowed me to do them both at the same time and that was wonderful.  Simply wonderful.

As to be expected, Chloe is still at the top of the charts for height and weight and developing just fine.  She was quite pleasant during the visit.  In fact, the doctor said he thought she was so delightful that he wished she would get sick more often so he could see her more.   Haha! I told him I did NOT wish that!

JD is at the top of the charts as well weighing in at 15 pounds (99%) and 24 inches long (97%).  He had a couple of shots today and did NOT like that at all.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen his face that red before.  Luckily he calmed down very quickly after I was able to hold him again.   The only big problem was later today, after the nanny came, he had an awful crying fit that he couldn’t seem to calm down from–we think it was because his legs were tender.  I quickly ran around the house in between lessons looking for Tylenol for him only to discover that I didn’t have any, so I quick called Tim and asked him to pick some up on the way home.  The nanny (bless her heart) was finally able to calm him down and put him to sleep.  Not bad for her first day, huh?  🙂

Laughing!

He's getting so chunky!

JD has started to laugh.  It doesn’t happen very often, and if you’re not ready, you’ll miss it… but it’s starting.  I just love that he’s becoming so interactive.  I’m so happy that he’s as old as he is as I start back to work.  He’s becoming such a big, sturdy baby, and is generally quite content–I have very little concern with the nanny’s starting next week.

This fall we’ll have 3 different nanny’s:  a Mon/Fri girl, a Tues/Thurs girl, and a Wed boy.  It’s a lot of juggling different people, but I think it’s going to work out just splendidly.  And this way each nanny only has to commit to 2 days (or 1) a week instead of having to be here for all 5.  This is also the first time the nanny’s will be dropped off on the bus at our house–hopefully things will go smoothly!

Diaper Sizes

Diapers seem to be like women’s jeans…  just because it says a size doesn’t mean it’s really that size.

Here’s a comparison of the diapers we’ve had in the house since JD was born.  On the far left is a Pampers Newborn size (the only one I had left in the house, that I gave to Chloe to use for her baby.  Which is why it has her name on it…).  Then in the middle a Pampers size 1.  And on the right a Huggies size 1-2.

Now is it just me, or is the size 1-2 smaller than the size 1?  It was a good thing that I thought to look at the Huggies diapers just after we got them–we quick put away the size 1 diapers so we could use up the smaller ones that I had originally purchased to use after we finished with the size 1!

Did you get all that?  🙂

Josiah or JD?

Mom, since you asked in your comment today I thought I would answer it here in case anyone else was curious.

“Should we call him Josiah or JD?”

We generally call him Josiah.  However, since JD is so much easier to type, especially without periods between the letters… I call him JD on here.

So, the answer to your question:  either is perfectly fine.  We like both.  🙂

Just steer clear of “Joey” because I’m not crazy about that name … 😉

And now for some pictures!

Our get-together went great last night.  I have more thoughts on that, but I’ll write more tomorrow.  For today, here are a few pictures for your viewing enjoyment.  🙂

(Oh, and as an aside:  Chloe STILL loves JD to death.  The novelty has not worn off yet.  I wonder if it will…)

Protect those ears!

Everyone has their “quirks.”

Mine is ear protection.

Maybe it’s because I’m a musician and hearing is everything to me.  I wouldn’t be able to savor music if I couldn’t hear it.  Or maybe it’s because I’m afraid of losing my hearing as I get older.  Or maybe it’s because I already constantly have to ask people to repeat themselves.  But no matter the reason, I’m very protective of my kids’ ears.

So, we bought these.  They’re awesome.

Actually we bought them for JD to wear for worship team rehearsals and church, since it’s quite loud and we’re scheduled to play/sing almost every week.  (which ironically enough I’ve forgotten to bring to church for JD to wear for the past 2 weeks… haha!)  But Chloe has discovered that she just loves them.  She is generally afraid of anything that is loud, so this definitely curbs her fears.  Plus she thinks it’s so funny to talk with them on and hear her voice… 😀

And speaking of not liking loud things… Chloe completely melts down when JD starts crying.  If he gets really worked up and starts wailing she’ll actually start crying herself and plug her ears and sometimes run away.  It’s frustrating and amusing all at once.  I’ve tried to explain to her that she can go to another room when he’s crying and that baby’s just like to cry–a lot.  Yet she’s torn between her hatred of the loud sound and her love of JD and wanting to be by him all the time!  Ah, the dilemma.

The Big 30!

That’s right.  Yesterday was my birthday.  And now I’m 30.

As my Mom put it, I’m finally officially an adult.  🙂

I thought all day about turning the big “three-oh” and how I should commemorate it, but I didn’t come up with anything special.  At one point I thought about eating 30 cookies, but after 6 or so, I realized how many 30 really was!   I also tried to think of 30 things I might want to accomplish, but I got too lazy and gave up on that.

So, it was a pretty uneventful day.  But we did go to the beach in the morning with the Bakers, which was awesome for Chloe to be able to run off some energy.  And then we went to Fuddrucker’s for supper because I was craving a nice big ice cream shake and hamburger, so that was also fun.  JD was a peach and slept while we were at the restaurant, and Chloe thoroughly enjoyed her grilled cheese sandwich.

I had a hard time getting very excited about this Birthday–having a baby just a couple of weeks ago kind of trumps a regular old birthday.  Even a semi-momentous one like turning 30.   Plus you add on the fact that I’m tired, so I pretty much just lounged on the couch watching t.v. most of the day.  Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not complaining or anything.  JD did give me a nice gift of sleeping for 5 hours straight.  It’s funny how gifts are totally different the older you get.  Who would have ever thought that sleep would be such a wonderful gift?  🙂

We swung by Target on the way home so Tim could help me look at hair dye.  I decided that it would be fun to try and lighten my hair a little (no, I’m not having a crisis about turning 30, I just thought it would be fun!).  It’s easier to look at colors with someone else to tell you what might look stupid… So we decided on just one shade lighter than my current color.  So I put it in this morning.  And I was going to post a picture of the result, but after comparing my before and after pictures, I’m pretty sure it didn’t change.  hah!  I think it’s maybe a tinge more red, but it’s hard to tell.  I’ll ask Tim when he gets home.  I suppose safe is better seeing as we have the wedding this weekend to go to!  😀

But since there are no pictures in this post yet, here’s one…  I found Chloe “loving” JD this morning.
