Writing about all the big & little things

3 days past due

Jen spent the night last night and is coming back again tonight just in case.  It’s nice to know that if I go into labor in the middle of the night we don’t have to wake the kids up.  I still think it will be tomorrow.  In fact, I so firmly believe that it will be, that I’m going to be REALLY disappointed if it doesn’t happen.

Our adventure for today was going to a birthday party!

Myla's Birthday Party

Some newer friends of ours at church were celebrating their little girl’s 1st birthday.  It was so cute.  I forgot what a big deal first birthdays are.  They had a watermelon theme, which I thought was super fun.  Our kids had a blast playing in the kiddie pool and running around with the other kids.   It was a bit strange for us, though, since Chloe was the oldest kid there.  We’re not used to having the oldest child when we go to gatherings.

They even had favor jars to send home with each kid.  It’s hard to see the picture, but they are plastic “mason” jars with lids and straws, bubbles, watermelon gum and then watermelon suckers.  Too cute!

I wonder if I should plan an adventure for tomorrow….. ???  Hmmmmmmm………………….  😉

1 day past due

Here we go–it’s the countdown, er, wait… I mean count UP to the day I have this baby.  My prediction is still 40 weeks and 4 days since that’s what I was with both the other two.  So, that means I have 2 more full days to get everything in order!  Today we’re getting the house re-cleaned and we installed the baby carseat.  We also washed bedding.  Both Chloe and Josiah had fevers earlier this week–NOT what I wanted to be dealing with as I imagine bringing a newborn home.  Luckily whatever it was passed quickly and they’re both doing great now.

My friend at church who was due this past Sunday went into the hospital this morning.  That would be 40 weeks and 4 days for her.  Isn’t that amusing?  She’s having a girl too.  I’m excited for her.  Plus I’m relieved, since I REALLY wanted her to have her baby first, just to be fair since she was due before me.  🙂

Here are a few pictures from yesterday.  I haven’t fully decided what our adventure for today is going to be……. hmmmmmm….

And then, while we waited for the pans to cook in the oven, Chloe read Josiah a book. I LOVE that she can read to him now!

Monday update: more adventures!

Let’s see, where did I leave off?

Oh yeah!  The Parks Adventure (that was our Friday event).

5.  Saturday:  We did a Video Game afternoon.  I made signs for them and hung balloons in the basement and then we sat on the couch and played video games on the Wii for a couple of hours as a family.  Chloe and Josiah thought it was a hoot!  Especially when Tim and I would play against each other.

6. Sunday:  Father’s Day!  We got to have lunch at Pizza Ranch with some friends who are just about to head oversees to be missionaries.  They were friends of our when we were going to church in St. Boni years ago.  It was wonderful to catch up them.  He’s actually just finished training to be a missionary bush pilot and they are heading to Africa.

7. Monday:  Went to the movie theater!  The movie theater is having a summer promotion where they do kids showings on certain days for a discounted price.  Today’s movie was Paddington.  They really enjoyed it.   (sorry the picture is not the best)

7.5:  Still Monday:  Yup, we did two things today.  We went to a friends house to see their rabbits!  The girls are actually our nannies and I teach them both piano, so we’ve become friends.  The kids loved seeing the rabbits and then the kids played with the girls for quite a while–they wore themselves out nicely.  🙂

Trying to make the most of our last “newborn free” days!

I decided this week to try and do something fun every day for the kids to help pass the time, and give them something fun to do.  Especially since soon we won’t be doing much at all since we’ll be stuck home with a newborn.  🙂

So, I told the kids every day we would go on an “adventure” and I won’t tell them what it is until we either get there or we are in the van.  They are thoroughly enjoying it.  Here’s what we’ve done so far:

1. Trip to the Biggest Candy Store in Minnesota (the yellow barn just down the road in Jordan).  I let them pick out one thing to have as their own.

2. Play date with the Tindalls and then we delivered a meal for a family at church.  It was an adventure b/c I had never been to their house before.

3. Bowling!  First time ever for Josiah and only the 2nd time for Chloe.  Josiah was OVER THE MOON excited about it.  Then we picked up a pizza and had lunch in the park.

4. Tour of Shakopee’s Parks!  This was the adventure for today.  I printed a map and chose 7 parks to go to (Shakopee has about 25 parks not including development/townhome parks).  I picked only ones on this side of town that were larger.  We spent 10 min. at each park then ran back to the van and drove to the next one.  They thought it was AWESOME!  Here are the picture highlights:

I didn’t notice  until I uploaded the pictures that Chloe seems to have her hands the same way in almost all the pictures.  Haha!

I have a few other random pictures from the parks, so I’ll post those tomorrow since I already have a bunch.  🙂

Bunk Beds!

The transition is finally complete!  Josiah and Chloe are officially moved into the same room.  It took me DAYS longer than I had planned (mostly because I had to take breaks because of being so very pregnant and getting sore) but it’s done.  Yes!  It did take some creative storage solutions and I’m not completely pleased with where all the toys are… but it will do for now.

And they couldn’t be more thrilled.

Wanna see the finished room?  Ok!

The things Josiah says….

The other morning I overheard a funny conversation between Josiah and Tim:

“Josiah, what’s your favorite thing to do with Daddy?”

“Cleaning!”

“Josiah, what’s your favorite thing to do with Kristen?” (a nanny)

“Um… Play with bubbles!”

“Josiah, what’s your favorite thing to do with CJ?” (another nanny)

“Play with Play-doh!”

“Josiah, what’s your favorite thing to do with Alisa?” (another nanny)

“Play outside on the playground!”

“Hmmm… Ok.  Well, Josiah, what’s your favorite thing to do with Mama?”

“Eat Corn dogs and chicken nuggets!”

Spring is here!

The trees are in full bloom here–it’s so pretty!  Our morning walks are much more delightful these days.

I heard Josiah exclaim this morning, “Chloe, Look!  It snowed last night!”

It took me a while to figure out why he was saying it… until Chloe yelled up to me–“He’s looking at the tree covered in white blossoms!”

In other news, Josiah has officially switched over to his next bike (training wheel bike).  And let me tell you, he’s fast!  I’m having a hard time keeping up with him at all these days.  Maybe switching him when I’m still VERY pregnant was a bad idea!  He’s getting faster and I’m getting slower!  😉

Project Thank-You Pictures: Josiah

This morning I decided it was time to make Josiah’s BSF teachers their thank you cards.  So, I got him dressed up all spiffy (doesn’t he look dapper?!) and he was so proud of how he looked.  Then we trekked around the house and yard taking dozens of pictures.  He was so excited to hold his sign and pose.  I let him choose wherever he wanted (plus a few spots I “encouraged” him would be awesome).  Then we perused all the pictures–over 80 of them!–and picked out the best ones to compile into a collage print.  Here’s the final product (sorry it’s a scan, so it’s a little grainy):

And here’s a few other pictures that were fun but didn’t quite make the cut.  🙂

Food Attitude.

My kids have a food attitude.  It’s true.

However, I wasn’t aware of it until they went to stay with my folks for a few days.  They are picky eaters.  Which is so funny to me, because I’ve never really considered them to be picky.  But then we started thinking about the food that we eat–and we mostly eat the same things over and over.   Mainly out of convenience and cost, not really for any particular reason.  So while they eat many different foods, they only eat the SAME foods–for example PB&J sandwiches–but always creamy PB and grape jelly.

So, I’ve started “operation food exposure 2015.”

And this week at the store we picked up variations on our old favorites:

pb and jelly experiment

That’s right–we went for EXTRA crunchy PB and the seediest jelly I could spot.  I know it’s going to be hit or miss on many of these item with the kids, but I need them to at least try them for a few days to be exposed to different things.  And who knows?  Maybe they’ll discover their new favorite thing?

When I came home with the Raspberry preserves Tim shook his head and said, “good luck with that” but I’m pleased to say that it wasn’t a total flop.  In fact Josiah loved it immediately and Chloe is coming around after days of trying it she didn’t even flinch at the seeds this morning.  😉

See, Josiah approves!

Tune in next time for more adventures in our “operation food exposure 2015.”  Next up is…. (dum dum dummmmmm)… SOUP!
