Potty Training (Day 2)

A big boy deserves big boy underwear!

A big boy deserves big boy underwear!

Well, I am (knock on wood) extremely pleased with how potty training has been going with Josiah.  The first hour of training was excellent followed by a tragic second hour with 2 accidents and lots of tears (wow–does he ever hate the feeling of having wet pants!).  So for the rest of yesterday we followed a pretty rigorous schedule of checking every 15-20 min and heading to the bathroom A LOT but, happily, there were no more accidents.

In fact there haven’t been any accidents yet today either, and we’ve pushed out the “checking” time to almost 40 min. now so we’re definitely making progress.   Later this afternoon we are going to attempt heading out to the church to do some organizing in the new nursery, so hopefully that new challenge will be a positive experience for him as well.

Also, as a tid-bit if amusing information, he is generally so pleased with himself for going potty on the big toilet that he doesn’t even require any type of reward.  I had candy and little toy cars all ready to hand out every time he used the toilet and he is so happy afterwards that he doesn’t even ask for them.  In fact I offered him candy yesterday and he TURNED IT DOWN!  (Are we sure this is my child?) 😉

I vividly recall breaking down in tears of frustration during the first and second days of potty training Chloe.  And I remember thinking afterwards that she was “easy” to train.  Ha!  So, we’ll see how the next few days progress, but I’m very happy.  And he’s very happy too!  ESPECIALLY now that he gets to wear big boy underwear!

So happy about the underwear!

So happy about the underwear!

Seriously--he was REALLY happy about the underwear.

Yes, this is him hugging the new underwear.

Getting to go on the big toilet has it benefits!

Wordless Wednesday: Summertime Smiles!

Love those happy smiles! (on a side note, you can see the flooding behind them… this is Huber Park right in downtown Shakopee. It shouldn’t be filled with water. Also, as a second side note, I have no idea what Josiah is doing with his hand… but at least he’s smiling at the camera!) 🙂

The count down is started!

That’s right, folks.  Josiah is going to start potty training next week.  We’re all very excited about it.   No seriously.  We are!

I’ve waffled on this whole potty training thing for too long, so we finally just said when he turns 3 he’s going to have a monumental Birthday.  (Also as a side note:  Yes, his actual Birthday isn’t until the 19th and we’re starting potty training on the 16th.  I thought it would be a better idea to try and NOT have a party and start potty training on the same day… 😉  )  Anyways, he has decided (with a little help from me) that when he turns 3, he will:

1) Go potty on the big toilet

2) Give up his Nuk

3) Get to move up to the next class in Sunday School

4) Have a party and eat cake inside

Fun times are ahead in the Friesen household.  😉

Josiah’s Room Transformation!

First it was PINK....

First it was PINK….

Then we added coast of white primer... making it, um... light pink?

So, we added a SECOND layer of white primer...

Then came a layer of white (actually a slightly creamy white) and a layer of blue at the bottom... (which then turned into two layers of blue since it needed more coverage)

And finally DONE! :)

And finally DONE! 🙂

And finally we added Cars decals on his walls which he thought were AWESOME! (and which can be easily removed later when he outgrows this phase).
