Writing about all the big & little things

The giant project that may or may not turn out as great as I’m hoping it will!

Our church is just finishing phase one of our remodeling project.  As you probably are aware, our church bought a nearby movie theater as our building.  While that works wonderfully for our services, it leaves the kids area a bit lacking.  It’s hard to have toddlers and kids running around on tiered floors having Sunday school every week.  So, this first phase included leveling three theaters from tiered floors:  one for kids, one for teens and one for the offices.

That’s where my part starts.  I’m currently in charge of the nursery area.  So that means I now have a blank slate area–an area to paint/decorate/create all from scratch.  Yikes!  The possibilities are endless and I admit it took me weeks to finally nail down what I think will…

1) be gender neutral

2) be age appropriate

3) be fun but not too busy

4) have adequate area for the older babies to move around

5) not look too DIY or simply slapped together.

Now I admit I can’t actually see if number 5 will be accomplished until it’s done, but I’m really hoping…

Here is the before picture.  This is the front of the nursery (with the check in counter) and then it continues in a U shape around the right side of that partial wall.  The door on the left is the entrance to the Preschool room.

Fence = done!

DSC_0057

Well, it took a full week for them to come back and finish the fence… but it is officially done now.  It’s really nice.  Not only nice looking but it’s also so wonderful knowing that the kids are safe.  Plus, it’s nice to know they are staying where they are supposed to stay even if I’m not watching them all the time.  🙂

We’re puppy sitting Darian (Baker’s puppy) this weekend so the fence will get put to the test.  We’re all excited!

Happy 4th of July

we went to see a movie

We went to see How to Train your Dragon 2 this morning.   It was excellent.   Then I make a trek out to Ikea to pick up some things for our nursery remodel.   I tried to head to Ikea last week with both kids in tow and it was a disaster… so today, even though it was the holiday, it was so much better going without the kids.  So, while they napped I got there and was able to shop “with ease.”  🙂

Side Job = done!

Today Tim (with the help of Chloe) finished up his side job.  We all breathed a sigh of relief now that it’s done.  It was great to get an unexpected side job, but with his workload picking up throughout the week, he had to spend all his evenings and weekends getting it done.  It ended up being a little bigger than we had originally expected:  patio, sitting wall, veneering, steppers, pillars and a few tiered planters.  That’s a lot of work!  But I saw it when I dropped off Chloe and it looks slick–it really classes up their property.  🙂

So, for the rest of today we’re just relaxing.  It’s wonderful.

Update on Dende

He’s doing better.  We finally got him to eat a little something and slowly his appetite seems to be coming back.  His spirits are definitely better, but he’s still moving slowly.

Dende’s not doing well

We all know this has been a long time coming, but Dende is doing worse.  He has pretty much stopped eating or drinking–although he did have a little something today.  But he is very weak and lethargic.  He does still wag his tail when we come over to pet him, but for the most part he is trying to sleep all day.  More so than usual, I mean.  He doesn’t seem to be in pain, just worn out and slow.  He’s looking very gaunt and has very large lumps under his jaw against his throat.  Poor guy… 🙁

We had a scare last summer where we were certain he was going to need to be put down, but then he made it through.  I’m not sure about this time though…

And then the rains came down… and the floods came up.

So, it’s rained a lot lately.  A.  LOT.  And last night was the night that put the streams and storm drains right over the top of what they could handle.  If you’ve been to our house, you know that our back yard bumps up to a more major street called Independence.  This morning it was no longer a street but a rushing river–completely submerged.  There was a point in the day that we were actually barricaded on our street because all the connecting streets were flooded.  Really flooded.  Tim went out mid morning and took this video….

Flooded River/Road!

Let’s just say that those cars didn’t go anywhere for quite some time…

We really don’t need any more rain.

Race Day! (Well, tomorrow…)

I’m excited and a bit nervous about tomorrow’s race.  I’m overly aware that I’m in pretty bad shape and that I’ll probably be a bit slower than I want, but you have to start someplace, right?  But I am very excited to run for the first time in years WITHOUT a stroller.  Yup.  Arms flying free!  I’m reminded of Phoebe (and then Rachel) in Friends… haha!
