Writing about all the big & little things
Today when we woke up we were delighted to find it was cool enough to finally open the windows again. It was glorious. Tim was off and running early again today to help work on the new church and then worship team rehearsal and then back to the church again. So I decided it was a perfect morning for a walk with the kids down to the bakery. Yup. We live 6 blocks from the bakery. That’s dangerous, huh? 😉 And despite its close location I think this is the very first time we’ve actually walked there on a random morning. Chloe rode her bike and thought it was the best thing ever. Although coming back home UPHILL was not as thrilling for her… hehe…
I spent the day cleaning and getting things ready to have some church friends over for supper. We had two families over–which also consisted of three younger kids–so everyone had a great time. We grilled kabobs and watched a little Mythbusters and then watched the kids play games on the Playstation move. Fun times.
Tomorrow we have another BBQ after church. Did I mention that our current worship pastor is resigning? I can’t remember if I did. He’s awesome and we’ve loved having him but he’s decided that he can’t stay on after his 6 month internship. We’re very sad about his decision to leave, but he’s taken on too much to handle everything right now–not only is he currently working on his Masters, but he’s also in charge of the traveling worship teams at Crown as well as the chapel coordinator. So, that’s a lot to juggle along with being our worship pastor. Kudos to him for seeing that he might burn out and stepping back now. He’s also helping us look for a new person to fill the position and he’s even agreed to stay on and help play guitar for a while too–so it’s all good. But it still doesn’t negate the fact that it’s painful to lose another worship pastor in less than a year. But I digress: tomorrow’s BBQ is to meet and greet a candidate for worship pastor. So, hopefully it will go smashingly well. 🙂
After a little tweaking, Chloe’s new timeout bottles are going to work great. I still have to superglue the tops shut (so no one accidentally drinks glitter/glue water–yuck!) and then I’ll take some pictures for you all to see. They’re pretty cool, if I do say so myself!
I admit I haven’t been feeling much like writing lately. It’s been quite hot and that’s draining on everyone–obviously Tim the most! I have so much I want to get done this summer and I’m feeling like I just can’t get anything done. The days slip away so quickly. Or more accurately: the mornings/afternoons slip away so quickly and by the time Tim gets home I’m so drained that all I want to do is flop on the floor and not move.
So, what’s been going on around here? Let’s see…
~ we enjoyed going to the beach twice this week!
~ JD is a walking machine now–and so happy about it!
~ We’ve started work on our new church building. So far we’ve torn out the concession stand, torn down the wall of tiles behind, torn up all he flooring in the front lobby area, cleaned a ton and then countless tiny things (like lawn care, air conditioning tuning, etc.)
~ I started Chloe on her very first piano lessons. She loves it. 🙂
~ Tonight I tried to make a new “time-out bottle” for Chloe that didn’t work quite as I planned… if I can fix it I’ll post pictures tomorrow. The idea is letting the glitter settle at the bottom–which should take a few minutes. However mine is a bit thick and doesn’t actually EVER settle!
Even since I took this video on Sunday he is SO much more solid walking around the house today. His newest goal in life is to walk places while carrying toys. It’s funny how upset he gets about falling down when the toy throws off his balance. 😉 I’ll take another video this weekend to show how much he’s progressed.
He LOVES the camera so it took me a while to get a video that wasn’t just him trying to get to the camera… haha!
I’ve only officially been on my summer teaching schedule for two weeks now–but I tell you, it feels like so much longer! And I’m having a hard time adjusting to my week starting so busy. I teach on Monday 1:30 – 9:00 then I wrap up and go to bed and teach all day on Tuesday pretty much from 9:30 – 9:00. Granted there are a few small gaps in there and I schedule a lunch and supper break, but that’s a long day. I do like being done for the week though, and then having a “five day weekend” every week. 🙂 But I’m having a hard time remembering that I need to have everything prepped and ready for Monday AND Tuesday by the time I start teaching after lunch on Monday. I forgot about that this week until about noon on Monday so we had to make a frantic trip to the music store over lunch getting back literally just in time to put the kids down for naps as my first student was walking it the door! It was a stressful couple of days. But like I said, it’s only been two weeks… so here’s to hoping that I can remember to get myself ready before Monday morning this coming week!
In other news it has been very hot and stormy lately. We’ve had 90 degree weather for a couple of days and it’s rained just about every day this week. I know that because I was supposed to mow the neighbors lawn and I had to keep putting it off! I was worried we might have a drought season because of the lack of snow this past winter, but we have most definitely had the opposite! Now a little less hot and a little less rainy would be great… 😉
Happy Father’s Day to all you Father’s out there!
I love my Dad. I’ve learned SO much from him over the years and I’m thankful for what a patient teacher he is. He never gets angry or snippy with me as he shows me time and time again how to fix things.
And he’s such an awesome Grandpa too! (or Bumpa, as we call him… :))
