Writing about all the big & little things

Josiah’s conversation

The other morning on our way to Bible study Josiah turned and looked at me with a very serious face.

“Mom.”

“Hmmm?”

“Daddy can’t call me his favorite little boy anymore.”

I looked straight at him and said, “Did you and Daddy talk about that this morning?”

“No.  I just thought of it on my own.  Just now.”

“Oh, ok.  I guess you’re right.”

He thought about it for a second longer.  Then with a big smile on his face he announced, “He will have to call me his favorite little BOYS.”

🙂

Timers and naps

As I sit in my studio I can hear the distant chirping of the timer.

It makes me stop typing and smile.  I listen carefully for the floppy stomp of a boy struggling to wake up and find the timer to turn it off.  One loud beep and I know he’s found it.  There’s a few more seconds and then I hear the slow click and opening of his bedroom door.

I wait patiently as he sleepily meanders down the stairs and heads straight into my studio to hand me the timer.

His little blonde head appears in the doorway.  “Here you go Mom” he mumbles, rubbing his eyes.

I smile.   “Thanks buddy.”

One quick hug and as he pulls away.  I can tell he’s fully awake now.  With bright eyes he darts from the door to find a toy.  Probably something he set out on his train table to play with after his nap.  Today is was a toy car and track.

He’s already started asking when he’s old enough to just have quiet times instead of naps.  I hate to let them go.  But he’s growing up, so I told him he can change to quiet times when he turns 5.

That means I only have 3 more months of these sweet sleepy midday hugs left.

And I will cherish every one.

Easter Eggs

I never did post anything about Easter.  We had a delightfully low key day.  We went to church, dyed eggs, had an easter egg hunt, ate a scrumptious meal, watched a movie… it was awesome.  I took a few pictures of the easter egg hunt, but they weren’t very exciting.  And we agreed that we have a ton of pictures of the kids together (since we just did our photo shoot with Tara recently) so we didn’t even take any Easter family pictures.  But I did manage to get a couple pictures of dying eggs.  I hope you all had a wonderful Easter too!

Morning list = check!

josiah's new list R

Josiah has officially graduated to getting his own morning check-list, just like Chloe.  We were having a hard time getting him to remember the basics (like putting his jammies away when he got dressed) so this fixes that problem and more!  He LOVES checking off his items.  And the added two items at the bottom are if he wants to have some screen time–he has to do those two tasks before he asks.  So far he’s been doing great.  Both kids enjoy doing their tasks in the morning (and at night.  He has another one for bedtime) and checking off items together.

I love anything that can make my life easier and can help the kids be responsible WHILE having fun.  We are definitely a list family here!

CHECK!

More pictures!

In order to not raise suspicion about doing a photo shoot for announcing the pregnancy to the kids, I made them believe that we were just taking individual pictures of them since they were getting older.  And especially since Maddie is now sitting all on her own–I really wanted a picture of her sitting for our photo wall.

So, these are some of the AMAZING pictures we got of the kids (before the real excitement began…).  A huge shout out to TGB photography again for her wonderful work.

Tune back in tomorrow for a few more cute pictures

Moving on up!

new car seat R

Maddie has officially moved to the next backwards facing car seat.  She is not longer an infant–she doesn’t fit in the infant carrier anymore.  😉  Josiah is absolutely thrilled about the change and has been asking non-stop to go somewhere (anywhere!) so we could try out the new car seat.  Lucky for him we have Bible Study tomorrow morning so he’ll finally get his wish.

My baby is getting so big!

Puzzle Boy

puzzle boy

Josiah is really into puzzles these days.

I find it amusing because Chloe liked puzzles ok, but wasn’t nearly as enamored with them as he seems to be.  He will often sit and work on puzzles for 30 – 60 min. at a time.  It’s crazy to me.  Sometimes I look at the puzzle he’s pulled out and think to myself, “that’s going to be too hard for him,” and yet he’ll power through and usually figure it out.  Okay, I’ll admit, it does often take quite some time on the harder puzzles, but he doesn’t seem to get frustrated.

Wordless Wednesday: Backpack

I have been looking for this backpack (it's Josiah's) since BEFORE our family vacation at Thanksgiving. (!!!) We were all thrilled to have found it yesterday!
