Writing about all the big & little things

Our new pet Dinosaur.

A family at church came up to us on Sunday and said that they had something for us in the back of their van.  We were perplexed.  She sent her teenage sons to the car to get it…

and then came squeals of delight when they appeared again.

Our new pet!

Yes, folks, it’s a giant Dinosaur.  Complete with blinking eyes, moving head, wagging tail, and “raaaaring!”  It’s pretty cute if I do say so myself.  And the kids just adore it.  Well, actually Josiah was afraid of it for a while (and I don’t blame him one bit) but now he really likes it.  I did a little searching and it appears that his name is actually “Kota the Triceritops.” Before we knew that Chloe had determined that her name should be Lilly.  🙂

"Lilly" I mean, doesn't she just scream "Lilly" to you? ;)

Never a dull moment around here folks.

Oh, and I should add–the family that gave it to us got it from another friend who was going to throw it out.  I know, right?  Throw it out?!  An awesome toy like this?  Sheesh…

Chloe’s first Preschool Program

Chloe had her very first official program on Friday night.  I had planned to miss it because I couldn’t afford to take off a night of teaching–especially with the recital coming this weekend–but lo and behold, I had a few cancellations and then a few swapping… and I was able to go!  It was short and sweet.  Here was the program…

DSC_0001

They performed 4 songs.  It wasn’t singing… it was more like rapping actually, since they just spoke the words in time.  🙂  But it was cute.  And in their defense it was three classes combined of 3 year olds and 4 year olds and Chloe is now 5… so they had never ever been all together before.  That’s a pretty wide range of ages.  And with everyone onstage at the same time there were 41 kids.   At home she was able to sing them for me with the correct tune, but when they all started “performing” them there the 3 year olds drown out the singing with their loud speaking.  🙂  But like I said, it was still cute.  It was fun to watch Chloe be nervous and then see us and visibly relax (and then wave frantically).

Chloe was by far the tallest. She was soooooo excited to get to dress up in her fancy dress and wear her "clip clop" shoes

After the program they had cookies in the gym, but we didn’t stay because the line was really long and Josiah was starting to get wild.  But before we left Chloe got to take a picture with her good friend Maddy.  Aren’t they adorable…?

DSC_0012And then of course we wanted to take a family picture.  She did great even though she was nervous.  She had been telling me all week that she was looking forward to the program the most so I’m glad  it was a success!

Christmas Card?

Well, I spent way too much time yesterday trying to decide and look through pictures of the kids and Tim and I to create a Christmas card.  I made a few mock ups of cards then I would try something else, then get frustrated and give up for a while.  I really WANT to send a Christmas card, but I constantly struggle with the cost of printing them and then mailing them… and then I feel guilty for not writing more about what’s been going on in our lives… and this really is the year to send a card to give out our new address… and then I can never decide which pictures are my favorite… and should I only include pictures of the kids or do people really care what Tim and I look like anymore?… Haha!  You can see why I gave up.  I decided that for now, I’m going to try and write a Christmas letter and include pictures in that instead of a photo card.  At least for this year.  Now of course, comes the work of actually WRITING the letter…

In other news… it’s cold.  Very very cold.  I wish it wasn’t so cold, because then the kids could actually go outside and enjoy the beautiful snow.  But when the high doesn’t go above zero, that a bit cold for me to feel comfortable sending them out.  Especially when Josiah is determined to not wear a hat…

And for fun, how about another random picture?

Yes?

Well, alrighty then!

Garage, funny faces and hair styling!

Here’s the long awaited picture of the garage! Ok, I’m sure it’s not long awaited, but some of you were probably mildly curious.  As a reference I’ve reposted the pictures of what it looked like before…

This was mid move… this was only the beginning of filling it to the max!

And, drum roll please, the (mostly) finished space!

I know it doesn’t look all that impressive, but IT WAS A LOT OF WORK!

Yesterday Chloe woke up and got herself dressed and even DID HER OWN HAIR!  She came down and spun around for me, and I have to say I was impressed.  She’s definitely developing more and more of what she thinks looks good and is starting to buck what I want her to wear (unless I’m able to talk up the outfit as being SO AMAZING!)  😉

Here’s her outfit and hair…

Then there’s Josiah sitting across the table from her munching away on his cereal… being as goofy as can be!

Electricity costs WHAT?!?!

So we got our first partial statement for our electric bill… it was only for roughly a week of electricity, and it was A LOT higher than we expected.  Now granted:  we’ve had people in and out over the past month a lot, I’ve been a little light crazy (I LOVE LIGHT!), there are more lights in this house than we’ve ever had, Chloe and Josiah can both reach switches and freely turn them on and off, and our stove is now electric as well as our dryer.  So, we did expect it to be a little higher–and truly you really don’t know what to expect when moving into a new house.

So, if you come to visit us… prepare to sit in the dark.  😉

Okay, I’m just kidding.  But it does make us more aware of what lights we are leaving on unconsciously and where we can conserve energy.  It’s a good reminder to not be wasteful.

In other news:  Tim is still working.  It’s been pretty cold too, but the ground isn’t completely frozen and there still isn’t snow.  He’s really ready to be done, but also thankful for the extra work, so it’s really a catch 22.  Is that the right expression?  Anyway, as of right now he’s working on his last job so he’ll most likely be done next week.

I can’t believe we are officially down to less than a month before Christmas!  It sure snuck up on me this year!  I normally go black Friday shopping but I’m not sure about this year.  It might be nice to spend the day getting more stuff on the house done… but then again, if there is an amazing deal, I might just have to brave the crowds… we’ll see what the flyers have advertised.  🙂

And before I go, how about a picture?

Happy, clean kids!  I just love their sudsy hair styles!

Life has been a blur…

I thought things would slow down and return to a more normal pace, but we’re still running around exhausted these days.  It’s a good type of exhaustion, but we’re still tired… It just so happens that this month seems to be the month that everything ELSE is happening.  Everything from church events, doctor/vet appointments, annual parties to contest meetings.  And trying to complete the half finished projects we’ve started on the house and work still is starting to drain us.  We’re close.  Very close.  But that’s why I haven’t written lately.  Or come out of my cozy hole recently… So, I’m sorry!

But the good news is that Tim is nearing his off-season, we’ve accomplished a ton around the house, we were still able to host our Pumpkin Party, I’ve been able to continue teaching as normal even amidst the chaos, all of my students who took Theory exams PASSED, and life in general is excellent!

Oh, and here’s the picture of the playset that I forgot to post… 🙂

New playset! Yes, we are aware that we put it a little too close to the fence... the slide was longer than we expected, so we'll move it in the spring. ;)

Pictures of our new house!

Sorry for keeping you all on pins and needles… but we didn’t have internet until last night.  So, here are some pictures of our awesome new home!

So pretty!

So pretty!

Don’t rain on my parade!

Well, I planned to pack up the house this weekend and live out of suitcases for this week, but that didn’t happen. Nope instead…

… we had a house showing
… I lost my voice completely
… I had a meeting at church
… we made a Menards run to pick up the studio door (yay!)

… and Chloe got sick

By Sunday night I was already exhausted (and annoyed since I couldn’t talk) and then Chloe came in just after I went to bed with a fever. I gave her medicine and then she got the “tickle” in her throat that made her cough continuously for 4 hours straight. She was coughing to much that she was starting to dry gag, so I stayed up with her until 3:30 at which point Tim switched with me and stayed up with her for the remainder of the night. I was so frustrated–there wasn’t a single remedy that I could think of to help her stop! She did finally fall asleep around 5:00 and then slept until noon.  So all my packing has been postponed…

Needless to say–this wasn’t how I was planning to spend this week!

(And on a side note, teaching with no voice is really hard!)

But, all things considered, I’m not too far behind. I’m still on the fence about whether or not to go to BSF tomorrow morning… it will depend on how Josiah is when he wakes up. He sounded like he was starting to get “the tickle” tonight… ah!
