Happy (Late!) Father’s Day!

I seem to be behind the ball on every occasion this year… it seems to be most of my posts say “Happy (LATE) ______(fill in the blank)________! ”

Ah, well… I still mean all of my tardy wishes!

So, Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Dad!   I’m not as eloquent as many at writing just how meaningful it is to have you in my life, Dad, but I still treasure you.  🙂  I hope you had a splendid day!

In other news….. it’s not raining today!  Well at least not yet, anyway.  The kids were able to enjoy a whole morning of fun outside without getting wet!    And more importantly I was able to get a bunch of the laundry and bedding washed and even hung outside to dry in the sun.  It was great.  Washing bedding is always risky business when your house is on the market and you only have one nice comforter for each bed… what if there is a showing while everything is in the washer???!!   🙂

In house related news, the house that we saw in the very beginning and loved has come and gone again and is back on the market again (and almost $50,000 cheaper!).  Even though that rings an alarm of suspiciousness (I wish that was a word…) it’s still top on our list and it’s hard to watch it come and go again.  Slipping right through our fingers.  Sigh.  Oh, well.  God knows the desires of our hearts and he knows the house that will be perfect for us, so we just need to wait.

No showings this weekend–which felt weird.  We’ve had 10 showings just in the past 15 days.  But it has given us an opportunity to do a lot of things this past week:  trip to St. Cloud, trip to the beach, walking with a church friend a couple of times, trips to the park, etc.  So, I shouldn’t really complain.  All of the showings are forcing me to get out of the house and do stuff, anyway!  🙂

A good morning for a run/walk!

Saturday morning the kids and I (Tim had to work 🙁 )  joined Jen at her church to participate in a 5K–it was FINALLY a gorgeous morning to be outside!

DSC_0027

According to the church website, it was: “a 5k fun run/walk to benefit and raise awareness orphans in Otjiwarongo, Namibia Africa and raise funds for Eagan Hills Student Ministry.”  Jen asked if I would walk with her so I decided to push Josiah in the stroller and Chloe got to stay back with her cousins.  In fact, almost all of the Friesen side decided to participate in the event:  Kristen, Jeremy, Ryan, Stephanie, Jen & myself!  The only grown-ups that didn’t run were Patsy and Tim.  But it worked out perfect because all the kids got to hang out and play yard games with Patsy while we ran/walked.  Oh and the girl cousins even decided to run the kid 1/2 mile fun run too!   I was pretty surprised that Chloe decided to run with the other girls because I totally forgot to tell her about it and she was wearing strappy sandals that were hard to run in…

Then we went over to Jen’s house to hang out and have lunch–it was fantastic!  Well, until I had to leave early and come home to clean the house for a showing and leave the kids there for everyone else to watch for me and then Patsy was wonderful and brought them back home for me.. before that, I had a fantastic time!  🙂

And in all seriousness, it truly does make me appreciate my extended family so much.  I was able to just leave both kids there and I knew that they were in such good, capable, loving hands that I didn’t have to worry about anything.  So, even though I felt guilty (and a little frustrated) for having to leave them–they still had a great time!  🙂

Today I start teaching my summer session.  I’m excited to only be teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays for the summer.  I have big plans for trips to the zoo and beach and visits to friends and family all summer long!

Rain, rain, go away, come again…. um, like in JULY maybe?

We have had so much rain.

So. Much. Rain.

I think it rains every day. At least 5 out of 7 days over the past month or so. I’m not kidding. It’s not always a heavy rain, sometimes it’s just an annoying mist that keeps the ground wet and makes walks soggy.. not to mention keeping Tim very wet while working. 🙂

So, I’m ready for some sunshine! I’m ready for summer! I’m ready for sandals and the beach!

Here’s to hoping we see the sun soon!

In other news we had to have the repair man out to our house today to check on our furnace–actually the FAN inside the furnace. We noticed when the air conditioning turned on (that ONE DAY a few weeks ago that was HOT) that it was making a helicopter-like sound. It didn’t sound good. So we have the service plan and the furnace fan was covered so, they came out to check on the problem.

Do you know what the problem was?

A piece of paper.

Actually it was a torn piece of children’s book that had slipped down the return vent and was flapping around in the fan.

Yup.

(Sigh)

….

Ah, life with kids. 🙂

Well, at least it was the easiest fix he had all day!

The first day of summer!

Today is officially summer in this household.

I know, I know… it’s not REALLY summer yet, but back in the winter when Chloe would ask day after day “when is summer?” I finally settled on the answer of “after my studio recitals.”

And she has an unusually good memory.

So she woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, put on her new summer outfit, ran in to my bedroom (where I was happily sleeping, er, strike that, HAD been sleeping) and announced “IT’S SUMMER!

It took quite a bit of coercion to get her into a more sensible (60 degree weather) outfit and then more discussion about how it really wasn’t the perfect day to go to the beach.   Or to run in the sprinkler.   🙂

We did have fun today, in spite of dashing all her hopes and dreams of what summer was going to be like.  We got to spend a lot of time at the park (because of a house showing this morning) and I even set up their tent in the yard.   I can’t believe we were ever able to set that up in my studio when we gave it to them at Christmas–it’s HUGE!  They’ve been having a blast playing it in for hours now…

Spring Recital!

Today we had our Spring Recitals!  Chloe was really excited–she’s been counting down the days all week.  She even got to wear her special pink dress and sit with the Baker’s through the whole first recital.  That’s a big deal, since, every other recital she’s only watched part of the program and then gone downstairs to play while Tim sets up the cake and punch.  But I really wanted her to start sitting through a whole recital because it won’t be long until she’s in the recital herself!  🙂

It was a gorgeous day for a recital or two!

Traditional Recital day picture with the kids!

Happy (late) Birthday to TIM!

Yesterday was Tim’s birthday.  We celebrated by going out to Chili’s for lunch and then Chloe and I baked a cake together–which she thought was AWESOME.  🙂

Then Jen came over to hang out for the afternoon and she captured a video of us giving the cake to Tim.  I think it’s cute seeing our little family interact.  My favorite part is Tim and the kids blowing out the candles.

That made me smile! #5

Happy (late) Mother’s Day!

God has blessed me with two wonderful children–some days I forget how wonderful they are.  Yesterday we enjoyed some time at the park and I got a couple of cute pictures.

These make me smile.

A normal post. And not really even about house stuff!

Okay, so this first part is about the house, but it’s really just to say that we don’t have any more news on anything.  The home inspector still hasn’t come yet.  So, my news is that there’s no news.  🙂

And now onto other stuff!

What?

Am I truly capable of talking about things other than our housing situation?  Well… I guess I can try… 😉

Hmmm…. so what could I talk about?

The weather!  Yes, the weather was absolutely GORGEOUS this weekend.  It got up to 82 degrees–which is a stark contrast from having snow a week ago!  Tim said it was like watching ants outside as all the people slowly emerged from their homes, piling outside to filter along the sidewalks and roads.  They all meandered leisurely enjoying the rays of sunshine.  It was quite amusing.  Even Tim spent time outside with the kids and did some raking in the yard.   It felt good to be able to enjoy some fresh air again.

Church.  We have been blessed as a church to have purchased our own theater building this past summer but it is in need of some major renovations.  We have just been “making it work” since then, but we are finally launching into our first campaign to actually do work on the building.  It’s exciting and quite nerve-wracking  for Tim & I to step out in faith to make a commitment to the campaign.  Knowing that our financial future is very unknown right now makes it extra hard.  But God is a big God and finances are no big deal to him.  So, we’ll trust.  This could be a very interesting year for us.

Kids.  Chloe and Josiah are doing great.  Josiah says new phrases every day.  He’ll respond to our questions in such a gown-up way that it makes us laugh.  He’s such a character these days.  They have been going especially crazy being cooped up for the last month when we could NORMALLY get outside…  I think everyone will be much happier now that they can be loud and run off some energy outside now that the snow is F.I.N.A.L.L.Y. gone.  🙂

Laundry day here!

Laundry day here!

And because I just can’t resist… a little more house stuff.  We did look at a few more houses this weekend (we went to open houses since our realtor was crazy busy).  None of them were right.  Fine houses, but not the one for us.

Exhausted, but just about done!

Hello everybody!

Look! I’m actually alive!  🙂

I’m sorry I vanished from the face of the planet (or at least via my website or answering or returning any phone calls!) for the past month. I THOUGHT things would settle down after my crazy contest weekend, but, alas, I was wrong.  SO.  VERY.  WRONG.

We’ve been working our tails off getting the house fixed up to list. It was my Spring Break week last week, but I had to teach on Monday still to make up for the previous Monday that I had to take off because of grading for contest… then Tuesday through today still we’ve been working from dawn to dusk on projects.  Dad was here on Saturday to help with the carpet and stairs (which, of course, turned into a much larger project than we had anticipated) but now it looks awesome!  Patsy and Jen also came on Saturday to help paint and pull staples from the flooring and steps as well as countless other random projects.  Then Bakers and Jen and Patsy were all back again on Sunday to help with more endless projects… (THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!!! ;))

I will say, however, that by the time Sunday (Easter) rolled around I was so emotionally and physically spent that I started crying 3 times during worship team rehearsal before church.  I was so tired and sore and stressed about the house being a mess and all the projects we had left to do–it wasn’t a pretty sight.  Luckily I was able to keep myself in check each time and wasn’t a blubbering fool on stage!

Anyway, you get the idea.  We’ve done a lot of projects.  And we’re tired.  🙂  I’ll stop being dramatic about it all.

I’m hoping to have some pictures to actually start showing you.  We have just a small handful of random odds and ends to finish up.  We were hoping to have those completed by today, but the bathroom upstairs has proven to be a MASSIVE headache of unexpected problems.  But, no worries, since Tim finally got that all straightened out tonight.  But it did end up taking us an entire day and a half longer than we had expected… so we’ll get back to the random odds and ends tomorrow.

And with all that said, we’re hoping to list next weekish.  We’re just waiting for the stucco guy to come and repair the outside and he can’t do that until it warms up to above freezing overnight on a regular basis, which it isn’t yet (whine, whine).  But soon!  Soon!

😉

Random Pictures

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted any pictures–and I discovered that it’s also been a long time since I’ve actually TAKEN any pictures… but I found the camera and pulled off everything from the last month or so.  I only had a couple, so here they are!
