Chloe and I set out on our very first adventure this past Thursday. We drove in tandem with Kylene & Justin to see my Grandma Fritz in Waukesha, WI. I really didn’t know how traveling alone with a 1 ½ year old would go, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. She had her moments of meltdown, which I would expect of any child, but overall she was a peach.
We set out on Thursday morning (after getting up early to go for a short run with Kylene—fun!) and met up with Mom & Dad for lunch in Eau Claire. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Fizzolli’s (and Italian restaurant where you get as many free breadsticks as you want! Yummmmm….). It was at this point that I realized that I forgot to grab any real shoes for Chloe. Apparently she had left the house that morning with only her fuzzy boots on and I didn’t notice. So, we had to make a quick stop at Goodwill to pick up a cheap pair of shoes for the weekend. After that quick stop we were back on the road. The drive down was pretty uneventful and we arrived at Grandma’s house around 5:30.
We unloaded all of our stuff and sat down for a nice homemade chicken dinner with all the fixin’s. My Aunt Dee was already there and gave us the tour around the house again since it had been quite a few years since either Kylene or I had been there. We enjoyed sitting around talking and reminiscing the rest of the evening. Chloe was quite tired since she only took a short nap on the ride down so she went right to sleep, which gave us a few hours to enjoy uninterrupted conversation.
The next morning (Friday) Chloe and I rolled out of bed at 7:15 and we all enjoyed a big breakfast: cereal, oatmeal, raspberry kringle, pecan coffee cake, orange juice, fresh raspberries, orange slices, coffee… I was in heaven. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so I was on cloud nine. After stuffing ourselves we re-packed our luggage and enjoyed some more wonderful conversation before heading down to a nearby park to let Chloe work off some steam.
To be continued…
