Broken wrist = new pink cast

Today at noon Chloe fell and hurt her wrist.  At first I didn’t realize it was anything serious and I thought she was just over-reacting and getting all worked up for nothing.  But she was more stubborn about not wanting to move her right hand then I’ve ever seen her… so I finally broke down and called Kristen, who told me to call the nurse, who told me to come in.

I must admit I felt a little foolish–this was Chloe’s very first big accident–so I felt like maybe I was playing to over-protective parent.  But after 3 1/2 hours at the doctors, 2 x-rays, and meeting with the orthopedic surgeon, it was determined:  she broke her wrist.  In fact I’m pretty sure she broke her arm very close to the wrist, breaking both her radius & ulna, but I’m not 100% certain those were the exact bones.  They said “she broke her wrist in both bones.”  And I know that the wrist itself is made up of many bones, so from peeking at the x-ray and putting 2 and 2 together, that’s what I’ve deduced.

Anyway, no matter how you look at it, she broke bones, and is now in a cast.  Now never having had a cast myself, it was a very interesting process watching it all come together.  In fact, they were able to give her a water proof cast–isn’t that cool?  I mean, as cool as getting a cast can be…

I feel terrible having to leave her so soon after the accident, but I know the Baker’s will take excellent care of her.  And all things considered, it will probably work out really well, since she’ll be so distracted with all the other kids around, hopefully she won’t notice the cast.

But now, I’m off to finish getting things done to get ready for our trip tomorrow.  3 1/2 hours at the doctor’s really put a damper on my productivity today!
