We found a house that we love… that we looked at months ago and very recently came back on the market again. However, it’s over our price point–by a lot. And it also needs A LOT of work.
But we thought, “why not take a chance? You never know…”
So we did.
We submitted a low-ball offer and they countered with a miniscule lowering of the price. So we gave them our top dollar price that we could muster and they said no.
Sigh.
It was worth a try right?
🙂
You’re exactly right – it was worth a try. You will never regret having tried to get it, yet not been willing to pay a foolish amount to do so. You never know what will happen. Like when I had the car dealer find me a Tracker for $3500, then he wanted more than that for it and I said no. As you recall, I eventually got the car and for exactly $3500. And after he’d lost a lot of money fixing stuff on it. So, just stick with doing what you know feels right to you and Tim. But also keep in mind that you don’t need to have your “dream house” when you are 32. It might be that something less than perfect is meant to tide you over until it is time for you to have that dream house. If you are at all like me, we often convince ourselves that we “need” certain things in a house, when really we just want them. And may indeed get them – some day. But maybe not this time around. I hope that makes sense. And sometimes the deciding factor isn’t even really what you can afford, but rather what is available now, where you need to be living now.
I love you – hang in there!
