We’re getting used to having a morning routine. Tim is just leaving for work as we all get up and start getting ready. It’s taken a few days, but I’m finally figuring out how much time we need to get everything done in time to walk leisurely to the bus stop. The key word in that sentence is leisurely. There have been days that have been a bit chaotic and, while we’ve made it to the bus in time, it was not the kind of tone I hope to set for her day. (And, if you know me at all, you’ll be ready for this next sentence…) So, we have our morning “to-do” list that we check off things as we accomplish them. She is in charge of crossing the items off and when she is totally done with everything on the list she is welcome to play or listen to adventures in odyssey. Granted, that has never happened yet, but I hope it will eventually.
As for me, I’m always amazed at how quickly I fall right back into my school routine. It takes a couple days to remember that I don’t have any afternoon/evening time anymore, but then I find that I’m able to be just as productive on my mornings as I have been on my whole summer days. Hah! Go figure. But I guess summer is meant to be relaxed, right? And while I “mourn” the change of the season and loosing my freedom, I forget how much joy I get in seeing all my students again.
And it’s at that moment when I’m listening to their summer time stories and teaching them the correct counting of a dotted quarter note + eighth note that I remember how much I love what I do. 🙂
Life is good!
