I know I’ve written about this before, but the church I have had my recitals at in the past just lost their baby grand piano last Spring. Which left me in a predicament. I don’t own a baby grand piano, so I feel like my students should have the opportunity to at least get to play on one at the recitals.
So, the search began.
And in a city as large as Shakopee, I was stunned by the lack of baby grand pianos. I did manage to find one at the Junior high, but it would raise my rental almost $200. Then there was another church that I found that had one that we could use, but it was tucked in a corner with bad seating and I wouldn’t be allowed to move anything–oh, and it was another $25 over what I had been paying AND we can’t do any type of food there. So the search continued.
Until today. I decided to branch out (since apparently Shakopee is lacking in this area) to nearby cities. Lo and behold, I found an acceptable location just over the river in Chaska. I am going to have our Christmas recital at the Chaksa Community Center Theater. It’s a cute little theater with a baby grand piano that seats 200 people and then there is a side room I can also rent for us to do a cookie reception afterwards. We will have to be careful not to dawdle too much, because I pay by the hour, but it was able to give me everything I needed. It did end up costing $50 more than what I had been paying, but with being able to get the piano I wanted plus an additional space it was the best option for now. So, we’re going to try it and see what happens. If we don’t like it we won’t use it again.
For now, I’m just so relieved to have SOMETHING figured out. 🙂
Wow, what a predicament. And here I am in little ol’ Chetek with two choices of places to have the recital on a baby grand and they don’t even charge if I have it at the church. I think I paid $50 for the senior center.
I’m glad you found a nearby option. Easier for us. 😉
Mom–I know! I was thinking of how you have a piano at the senior center the whole time I was driving around town frustrated that I can’t find one here. 🙂
Kristen–I thought you would be happy about the location being closer. 😉
