Gearing up for Valentine’s Day!

Today is Chloe’s 100th day of school AND her Valentine’s party.  I gave her the option of dressing up like she was 100 years old or dressing up for Valentine’s day.  Can you guess what she chose?  Yup!  Valentine’s Day!  She loves pink and red and hearts, so this is the perfect holiday for her.  I forgot to take a picture of her this morning when she left, but she was quite cute.

We have lots of fun stuff planned for tomorrow:  red cupcakes, making heart garland, telling Valentine’s jokes, and maybe even making pink mac and cheese (we’ll see about that one…)  Oh, and of course, she has swimming lessons in the morning too.  Plus the Baker’s will be spending the day with us, so there will be more to join in the fun!

I’ll be sure to take pictures!

Happy Friday everyone!

GIRL!

That’s right!  We are soon going to have girls outnumbering boys.  🙂  Of course, we’re not going to get rid of anything until the baby actually comes out and there is no doubt on the gender.

We told the kids this afternoon.   Chloe was genuinely disappointed.  She wanted to stay the only “princess.”  She was so gung-ho about having a girl at first that I prepped her for the possibility of having a boy and really talked it up… I guess I talked it up too much!  After some more discussing, I think she’s coming back around to having a sister.  😉

Josiah also yelled, “No!  We’re having a boy!”  But he was just mad that my answer wasn’t the same as his…

Not the best reveal we’ve had… haha!  But truthfully, we were expecting that.

Gearing up for a fun full weekend.

This weekend we have lots going on.  I actually had more stuff happening than I actually have hours to do it all in, so I had to say no to a couple of things.  A few of the highlights of this weekend include:

  • Swimming class for Chloe (I’ll write more about this later)
  • Scott & Shannon are coming down for a visit
  • Bakers are coming for piano lessons
  • Piano Contest Preliminaries
  • Ladies Event at Church.  They’re going to a Salt Cave (this is the one I had to decline…)
  • We’re hosting a pretty big Superbowl Party (with an epic homemade “food stadium.”  I’ll post pictures, don’t worry)
  • And of course, Church and helping on worship team and nursery

So, this morning has mostly consisted of cleaning the house and making sure we have all the items we need for each thing.  It’s going to be loads of fun!

Oh, and I just got a call this morning that my ultrasound needs to be pushed back a day (scheduling problems) so I won’t get to go in until Friday.  Sad, huh?  Oh, well… I guess I can wait ONE MORE day.  🙂

Our craft and gift giver

Chloe loves to craft.  She loves to paint/cut paper/draw/tape things together/hang stuff from string/color/make cards… you name a craft and she loves it.  Her favorite items to receive these days are office supplies.  I vividly recall loving getting office items too.  Actually, come to think of it, I STILL love getting a nice pen or a fresh pad of paper or even posty notes.  So, I guess it’s no surprise that she loves it too.

These days her other obsession has branched into giving gifts.  It really hit after Christmas and all the gift giving we did then.  So she’ll go around the house and gather items and wrap them and then give them to us.  The funny part is that she’ll pick items that are already ours–so she knows that we’ll be excited about them when we open it.  For example she wrapped up Josiah his own toy sword–so when he opened it he was like “YEAH!  I love this toy sword!”  🙂

So, after discussing with her that she doesn’t need to just re-gift us our own things and that a homemade craft is just as great, she now has been making us crafts daily.  Yesterday she made us all puzzles out of pictures.  She also made us invitations to come to her party in her room and hung decorations.  The day before that she wrote a card to every family member.  And then there was the “big secret craft project” that was a surprise.  She worked on it all Saturday afternoon and then revealed it to us.  Want to see it?  Of course you do!

I’m not sure what it is.. but it’s large and has lot of glitter glue and drawing and tape on it.  And she was very excited to give it to us.  So we posed for a picture to remember it.  🙂

Adorable Video I found of Josiah

We figure he’s about 11 months in this video.  It’s so hilarious how I can still hear his laugh there in his laugh now–it just cracks me up!  I could watch this video over and over… and just think!  We’ll have another little one like this before we know it!

I have refound my favorite musical

secretcd

The Secret Garden was my favorite musical growing up.  I just adore the music–and all the arrangements–and the characters are so interesting to me.  You have a snotty girl, an Irish maid, a rugged gardener, a sickly boy, a depressed father, an overbearing uncle and a mystical outdoorsy boy.  Who wouldn’t love that mix of characters?

As a younger girl I would sing along with all the parts fantasizing about being the main girl (the snotty one as it turns out).   I had it on cd growing up.  Or, I guess it could have been cassette tape now that I think about it… Anyway, over the years, I moved on, went to college and forgot all about it.  I don’t know where the music ended up.

But at Christmas Tim bought me a speaker to hook up to my phone so now I can stream music from our Amazon account for free (or any of the cds we purchase or even upload to it).   And guess what was on there.  Yup.  The Secret Garden.   So, I’ve spent hours re-listening to it.  And I can safely say I don’t dream of being the girl anymore–now I’m the beautiful soprano (dead) wife.  🙂

It’s amazing how much more meaningful music can be at different stages in my life.  Certain songs can dig right into the soul of me.  In this case it’s the duet the depressed father sings with his, now dead, wife.  He’s agonizing about not wanting to live with out her and she patiently reminds him what is left worth living for.  It’s beautiful.  It makes me cry.  Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant… 😉
