Skinny Saturday: Encouragement

Today’s post is words of encouragement that I ran across a couple of weeks ago.  It’s a good reminder to me–since I want immediate changes… this process takes time.

motivational saying 1

Tim pointed out that this is a very ambiguous statement–it all depends on how hard you’re working and if you’re actually trying, etc, etc, etc.  But for me it helps me remember that even if I’m working very hard, it’s still going to take time.   I know it’s absolutely ridiculous, but somehow in my head I think that if I just work REALLY hard at loosing weight that it should fall off faster.  But the body can only build muscle and burn calories so fast and I need to be patient.

So, I will KEEP GOING!  🙂

Enjoying my last “free” weekend

Starting next weekend I have something major going on for the next 5 weekends in a row–capping off the final weekend with my piano contest.  Which means, this weekend is really the last “relaxing” weekend for a while.

So, Tim and I went on a wonderful date today.  We went to Bonfire grill (I had a gift card, yippie!) and ordered a Chicken Club sandwich (Yum!).  They put us at a high top table right next to a fireplace which was nice and cozy.  Then we scoped out a natural foods store that I found just down the road (which is actually really awesome, especially if I need something specific or organic) then we went to Lowe’s (that’s right folks, all awesome dates once you’re married end up at Lowe’s or Menards!) and then we capped it off with a much needed car wash.  See, doesn’t that sound like fun?  I thought it was spectacular!

This week was very taxing on me emotionally.  I had a rough encounter with a parent of one of my students that really upset me for a bit.  I don’t want to go into any details on here (just in case…) but let’s just say it upset me.  It’s all over now.  I’m actually still waiting to hear back from the student, but I’ve communicated as kindly and clearly as I can and now have my peace in the situation.  Tim said it well, when he reminded me that in all the years of teaching and  ALL of the students I’ve had contact with I really only had a small handful of problems.  And for that I am EXTREMELY grateful.

On a lighter note… wanna hear about my sad lamp story?  Here is my lamp (yes, they were in a cheap 3 pack set from WalMart, so I really shouldn’t be surprised)…

Exhibit A: Cheap Lamp.

Exhibit A: Cheap Lamp.

I  noticed the other day that my lamp was starting to smell funny and, wait for it… smoke.  Yes, smoke.  And I thought to myself… that’s not good. So I looked more closely and the whole top of the plastic lamp shade had disintegrated and was falling directly onto the light bulb.

Exhibit B: Notice the hole at the top...which had been hiding under the metal cover.

Even now there is plastic melted ONTO the light bulb… which I tried to take a picture of but it really doesn’t show up well on camera.  I guess you’ll just have to use your imagination.  So, I quickly moved the metal plate to the inside of the lamp shade which protected it more, but the damage was already done (and no, I didn’t originally install it backwards, because I know that’s what you’re thinking…) So today on our date to Lowe’s we used part of a gift card we had to purchase new lampshades with METAL brackets inside.  You know, the way lamp shade should be made…  See how pretty!

It’s funny how you don’t realize that you don’t have many recent pictures of someone until you start looking… and that’s what I found out as I went to post a picture of Kristen.  I have LOTS and LOTS of pictures of the Baker kids, but sadly not many of Kristen.  Hence, the stolen picture above.  😉

Happy Birthday Kristen!  I’m so blessed to have you as a Sister-In-Law!  I’ve enjoyed our many conversations and getting to see you each week at BSF.  I hope you are able to relax and enjoy a slice of delicious cake today!

9 Reasons why I like Slim Fast (right now)

No, I’m not being paid by Slim Fast to promote their product or anything… but I got to thinking about it the other day and I realized that there are a lot of good things about it (at least for me, right now). So here are my 9 reasons I like SlimFast right now (yeah, I wanted it to be 10, but I couldn’t come up with a 10th…)

9.  The name.  I mean who wouldn’t like the idea of getting “Slim” Fast?  😉

8.  It has lot of good vitamins and nutrients in it.  I know not as much as eating actual fruits and veggies, but it’s a process…

7.  I don’t have to think about what to eat.  I just know I’ll have my shake.

6. I get to use my 3 (yes THREE!) awesome “shaker thingys” (I believe the technically term is Gravy Shaker?)

5.  I can take my shake container and mix anywhere easily.  All I need to find is milk.

4.  I can down it really fast, so it gets me out of the kitchen faster and away from temptation.

3.  It tastes super chocolatey, so I feel like it’s a treat.

2.  I get a glass of milk in with every shake.

1.  And the number one reason that I like SlimFast right now is because it’s helping reach goals!  Little baby goals, but goals nonetheless!

Happy Birthday, Krista!

We’ve begun the Birthday Month of Ladies I Love.  Hmmm… that sounds creepy, doesn’t it.  Well, if your Birthday is this month, you know what I mean.

Today is Krista’s Birthday!

I am especially excited for Krista this Birthday because she is just about done being pregnant with their second wonderful child.  They already have Baby Mae and are now about to have a baby Boy.  How exciting!!!!  However, if you’ve been pregnant, you might remember those last days being a wee bit uncomfortable (hehe!)  so I’m sending out lots of Birthday wishes for comfort and relaxation and a simply wonderful day!

So, have a double slice of cake today and put up those sore feet!  You’re on the home stretch now!

Blustery Day

I don’t like wind.  It’s a good thing I don’t live in a state where tornadoes are more prevalent, because that would terrify me beyond words.  Well, I also don’t like the idea of living next to an ocean… or on an island… or where there could be earthquakes… or where it gets insanely hot… come to think of it, I guess I’m living in the perfect place for me right now!

But I digress…

I was talking about wind.

It’s quite windy here today.  Our front door has a tiny leak in the seal so when it’s windy the door “whistles” loudly.  When we first moved it it was quite unnerving since we didn’t know what it was.  So we searched like little detectives all around the house for the sound.  It took us a while to find it since it only happens during a big gust of wind and the door kind of echoes in the front entryway… you can see why it had us looking all over.  The front door is one of the things we need to replace on the house when we save up enough.  It’s all rotted along the edge which has swelled the wood making it REALLY hard to open and close.  It’s not a necessity, though, so the whistling will just continue on.

Thursday.

It’s Thursday.

This week has seemed to be endless.

We’re starting to get back into our regular routines again.

I still taught this week even though schools were off on Mon. and Tues.

I still had most of my students come despite the cold weather which was nice.

The kids are starting to come down with an annoying “cold” bug again, which means they’re sleeping poorly.

Have you noticed that I’ve been gradually composing longer and longer sentences as this post has been progressing?

It’s actually a little bit harder than you would think, but I’m clearly using my free time this afternoon for something truly worthwhile.

🙂
