Recital Day

Sorry I haven’t posted much lately. I have both my recitals today, so this week has been a whirlwind of activity wrapping up lessons for the year and then getting everyone ready for the recital and then getting all the programs done and supplies purchased… needless to say it’s been busy. This year we had to move the recital to Saturday because the church had a conflict so I one less day to get everything done.

But I think have everything in order now so I’m going to practice my accompaniments for my voice students, do my hair and then load up the car. And hopefully the freezing rain will hold off until after my recitals are done later tonight! 😉

Snow and Candy.

Yup.  That about sums up my weekend.

We took this picture on our way to church--it had just started to pick up snowing at that point...

This was about 3/4 of the way through the day--we got a kick out of how much snow collected on that tiny branch!

Candy bags!

We got a lot of snow.

And I made a lot of candy.

And now I’m exhausted.  But I do have that wonderful “accomplished” feeling as well, which is satisfying.  🙂  All my candy bags are done for my students.  Every year I get a little better at figuring out how to be more efficient with doing everything.  However, at the same time I’m getting better, I am finding I also have more to contend with the kids wanting to get into stuff and “help.”  So… it’s perhaps a loosing battle.  😉

Tomorrow morning I’m up early to watch a church friend’s 2 littlest kids.  She has a pregnancy check-up and didn’t want to drag them along.  It’s the appointment where they make you drink a really sweet liquid and then you have to come back in exactly 1 hour to check your blood sugar levels.  So, since she’s going to be there so long she thought it would be best to leave her little ones someplace else.  And Chloe is more than happy to entertain them!  It should be a fun morning.

Guess who’s FINALLY done with work?

Yup, you guessed it:  TIM!

He had an extra long work season this year–extending all the way into December!  But yesterday was finally his first official day off.  I think he would have been more excited if he didn’t have to run errands all morning and then help with two very crabby (and loud) kiddos yesterday… haha!  But such is life!  😉

The kids are just soaking up having him home.  It’s very adorable.  You would think they never see him by the way they cling to him–which, of course, is not true.  But they cling nonetheless.

Now we’re (okay, mostly me) adjusting to having everyone home again and our new rhythm of daily life.  I can’t believe it’s already the craziness of the holidays and Tim is just now getting off!  My recital is next weekend already!  Sheesh!  Where did the time go?

Thankful Week (Wednesday)

4. I am thankful for our house.

It’s easy in the midst of a house hunting to quickly forget how luck we are to own a house in the first place.  I am truly thankful to have this house–it has served us well for a long time.  We have fabulous memories linked to living here that we will forever remember.  Our kids will remember “our first house” and “our tiny yard.”  🙂  We’ve done a lot of experimenting and learning with home repairs in this house–some worked just like we planned and others, not so much.  It was a learning experience in opening up 100 year old walls.  You just never know what you’re going to find!

But mostly I’m thankful for the comfort and security of knowing this is our home.  This is where we feel safe and can be completely ourselves.  I love it.

This was taken in 2005--how often do you step back and take a picture of your house? Not very often I guess!

Thankful Week (Tuesday)

3. I am thankful for shopping carts that fit both kids.

I admit that I scoffed at those silly shopping carts before I had two kids.  You know the carts: the ones with a giant race car on the front with a steering wheel and everything.  Or at target they have two huge bucket seats attached to the front.  I said to myself, “My goodness, why do you need to cart around your kids in that?  Can’t they walk?”

And then on days like today I laughed at my ridiculousness as I grabbed a red race car cart to make my way through the grocery store.  And boy, was I ever thankful for that cart.  It was crazy busy.  And I was on  my last fuze–after making our way through Target and missing lunch and then discovering JD had leaked out of his diaper and I didn’t bring a change of clothes.  So, as I walked through the store (with one child missing pants!) I smiled at the joy of having them contained.  🙂

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life.

Pumpkin Party Pictures!

I’m FINALLY posting pictures from our Pumpkin Party we had one week ago today.  It’s been a busy week and both kids are still feeling a bit under the weather so I’ll try and get everything uploaded quick before they wake up from their naps!  🙂

We had a fantastic day and turnout for our Pumpkin Party.  It all went a little like this:  Friends start arriving, kids play together, men “gut” the pumpkins, women set up all the food, men take the kids to the park, women carve the pumpkins, we all head inside and eat, then socialize, then the grownups watched The Avengers downstairs and the kids (plus a few of  the Mom’s) watched Tangled upstairs, then the kids melt down after the movie ends and everyone packs up and heads home.  🙂  But like I said, it was loads of fun (even with the epic melt downs at the end).

Now on to the pictures!  Click on a picture to make it bigger…
