I don’t like electric appliances

Yup.  I don’t like them.

I guess I’m an appliance snob.

After having lived most of my life with a gas stove and oven, I find our electric one in this rental house to be quite frustrating.  Now it could also be because this stove only has 3 out of 4 working burners and they all heat differently and 1 is tipped funny and the oven doesn’t heat to the correct temperature……. all due to the fact that it’s ANCIENT.  Oh, and the brand name is…. wait for it…… “Caloric – Prestige Series”

HAHAHA!

Who names their appliance “CALORIC?”

Anyway… I look forward to cooking again in an oven that I can get  used to and depend on again.  I will have to get used to using electric, however, since our next house has that as well.  But it’s a smooth top electric stove, so at least it will be easier to keep clean than these spiral thingys on the top of the one here.

One month from today…

In exactly one month, we’ll be moved into our new house!!!!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That means it’s only 28 more days until we close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We’re buying a house!

Well, it’s finally official.  We’ve signed the preliminary papers and had the home inspection completed last night.  There were no concerns with the house that the inspector could find.  So, we’re good to go!  The closing date is set for October 24th.

We’re VERY EXCITED!!! 🙂

And now we can finally wash our clothes again!

When we signed our lease agreement the realtor said, “Oh, and you should know that the washer KIND OF works.”

Awesome.

How does a washer KIND OF work?  It either works or it doesn’t.

And it turns out that it didn’t.  Nope.  Completely broken.  But it was okay since we had until last week at our old house we could still do laundry there.  But since moving out we now had a dilemma of needing to do laundry.  So after discussing with our landlord and coming to an agreement, we purchased a new washer from Lowe’s and she’s agreed to reimburse us.

And it was delivered yesterday!

We’re excited to be able to do laundry again!!!!

Starting to feel settled

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks–and especially the last week.  I literally spent all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday moving boxes and cleaning our old house.  Tim and I were up past 11:00 on Thursday night moving the piano and couch across town.  Needless to say, by the time we got to Saturday we were completely exhausted.  No, strike that.  We were past exhausted and my hand were raw from moving stuff.

Then I woke up on Saturday morning to this……..

this is supposed to be our living room... looks like a tornado came through!

and we were only able to get the piano into our entryway by ourselves...

So, I spent this weekend getting things unpacked and organized.  Today, since it was cooler, I actually spent the whole day trying to weed the gardens and flower beds (quite the mess!) and only was able to accomplish half the yard.  Those pictures are coming later this week.  🙂

But I am pleased with how far I got on the house though!  Here’s what our new Tyler Street house is looking like today:

I’ll take some more pictures tomorrow of the bedrooms and my studio–those are done as well.  The only rooms left to finish are hanging the t.v. in the living room upstairs and getting the sitting room downstairs ready.  We’re so close!

God’s got our back… see?

The rental house happened crazy fast.  I called on Thursday morning to say I was interested–he told me he was on his way to Shakopee and could meet me at the house in 10 min.  I jumped in my car and headed over there.  We talked that morning and agreed that Tim should see it that night.  By 10:00 Thursday night we had agreed to meet the next day (Friday) to sign the agreement.

So, roughly 24 hours after I called him we signed the contract.

That’s fast.

We tried to push out the date of taking ownership to next week since we really didn’t need to get in yet (we don’t have to be out of our current house until August 30th) but he was insistent on us starting right away.  So we figured it was worth the extra cost to have a place to live lined up.

In all the chaos of taking ownership we are also now in charge of continuing to show the house–which means we get notifications of showings as well as all the feedback.  Apparently we had two showings on Saturday (yes, yesterday).  I guess those showings must have been scheduled before Friday when we switched everything….  The house got some interesting feedback today…

“Clients need to rent for 2 years due to short sale 1 year ago. They are interested in a rent-to-own and would pay $1450 per month. Would your seller consider?”

I don’t in any way think this is a coincidence.  I KNOW that the landlord would have willingly taken this offer over ours and if we had waited even one more day we would still be looking for a place to live.

See, God’s still got our backs.  As if there was any doubt, huh?  😉

We’re no longer HOMELESS!

It’s official.  We found a house to rent. Just signed the papers this afternoon.

They agreed on a monthly contract with a 2 month vacancy notice–which will work PERFECT for us since we need at least 45 days for our financing to clear if we buy a house.  Plus, we can stay there as long as we need to.  Plus they are fine with me teaching in the house still.  PLUS they are fine with Dende, too.

See, lots of really good things.

I’m not terribly excited about the house itself–but beggars can’t be choosers, or however the saying goes.

Wanna see it?

Ok!

It’s staying on the market to sell, so we’ll have to have showings–but we’re pretty used to that by now.  Yes, an inconvenience, but we can manage it.  And don’t worry, they won’t kick us out if they get a buyer, we made sure of that.  But we’re hoping to find something SOON, so everyone would win if it sold and we bought close to the same time…

It’s officially ours starting now, so I plan to head over there as soon as the kids wake up from their naps to start cleaning.  🙂

More Disappointment

We had an appointment to see the rental house on Monday evening.

2 hours before it was scheduled they called to cancel (“time doesn’t work for tennants” they said).  I’m frustrated since we set up the appointment on Friday afternoon…

So they asked if we could come Tuesday evening. I said “No, I teach all evening.”

They say fine, how about Wednesday morning. Well, Tim works…. but I guess I can go and see it by myself.  Not ideal, but we need to see it.

This morning (after painstaking efforts to line up a sitter) 30 min before the appointment, they call and say the property is no longer available.

They accepted an application last night.

🙁

Onto plan B.

Oh, wait, we don’t have a plan B…..

Mishmash of news for today

Today is my lesson sign-up day. I love sign-up day because everything finally falls into place… although it is a bit of a crazy morning around here getting emails and phone calls and trying to schedule and send confirmation emails as fast as my fingers will go! But I still love the feeling of it all coming together.

Today is also Dad’s birthday–so HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! 🙂 Chloe and I were supposed to make a cute card together and somehow time slipped away from us and we didn’t get it done, so it will be coming late…..

Today the kids are at Baker’s house. They actually spent the night there since my sign up started so early and I wouldn’t have time to drive them there this morning before everything got started. I’m hopeful that they are being good….. 🙂

And finally, Today we go to look at the rental. I’m excited and apprehensive at the same time. I really like the rental but we have to decide if it’s worth it to only be able to stay there one month… We’ll know more after we see it today (actually this evening).

I hope you’re all having a great Monday!
