Writing about all the big & little things

Category: Moving (Page 3 of 5)

Beware: I’m a rollercoaster of emotions these days…

Thanks for all the Birthday wishes yesterday! 🙂 It really helped make my day.

Which is a good thing since I also totally freaked out again about our whole housing situation again yesterday… I seem to swing to such extremes these days. Gah!

But today has been a good day. We went out and bought some new totes to store all the clothes that we’ll be transporting to our rental (of which we still need to find, but more on that in a second…) and I’ve started packing up more from the house. I just hate living in this limbo. Especially since I have no idea where we’re going next or how long we’re going to be there.

But onto better news: Here is the rental we are going to look at on Monday night. I’m VERY excited about it (so no one say anything bad about it, ok? ;))

It’s only available for a short time, but that’s alright with us, because it will work very well for our purposes right now. The hardest part for us right now is getting from a house into a rental.  We’re going to live on the bare minimum for a while in the rental, so if we have to shift to another rental from there that won’t be as stressful as getting into our first rental.  At least that’s my logic right now.  And we can get into the rental starting next week which would help moving our stuff.  Plus this would give us just a little more time to keep looking…

Like I said, I swing on major extremes these days… and right now I’m happy.

Our low-ball offer…

We found a house that we love… that we looked at months ago and very recently came back on the market again.  However, it’s over our price point–by a lot.  And it also needs A LOT of work.

But we thought, “why not take a chance?  You never know…”

So we did.

We submitted a low-ball offer and they countered with a miniscule lowering of the price.  So we gave them our top dollar price that we could muster and they said no.

Sigh.

It was worth a try right?

🙂

Time to get serious.

We’ve decided to start moving the rest of our things systematically to our storage unit.  This weekend we cleaned out the garage.  Next weekend is the basement.  The following weekend is the rest of the house because the final weekend of August the kids and I will be on vacation!

Here’s the before picture…

And then it seemed to get worse and worse as we were trying to clean it!

And finally… after many trips to the storage unit and even a tip to the Baker’s garage, we have it mostly cleaned out!

The conclusion of our sale? Could it finally be?

Thanks to Tim and Dad working this weekend we are the proud new owners of a cute rectangular hole in our ceiling at the top of our stairs.  Nice work guys!  They did encounter a few snags along the way (which is really no surprise in any home repair project…), but were able to finish it up in one day.

We left it "unfinished" in case we needed to make the hole bigger... now Tim can trim it out and I'll paint it white

And this afternoon the appraiser/inspector came BACK to look in our “attic”… which actually turned out to be about 15 inches or so (at the peak!) of space.  Not even enough room to put your head and shoulders up into… good grief!  Anyway, she came back to check to make sure it looked secure and had insulation.  And it does.  So, after apologizing for having to come back, she said it looks good.  🙂

Now we just wait to make sure the closing date is still August 30th.

And that SHOULD mean that our house is actually, officially SOLD now!

Another house twist… expensive, frustrating, & exhausting

We’ve had a little snag with the buyer on our house.  It hasn’t fallen through or anything, but he didn’t qualify for the type of loan he wanted so he’s had to switch to an FHA loan.  This means that the appraisal will also be another inspection… and apparently the regulations are a bit more strict than a normal inspection.

Ugh.

I hate inspections on our VERY OLD house anyway, and now we have another one…

So, we’ve been given a few items that we will need to take care of before the appraiser comes on Wednesday.

Can you guess which one I’m most frustrated about?

Our new weekend project. Lucky us. :(

Happy 4th of July–and other GREAT NEWS!

I hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July.  Our was wonderful.

4th of july

It had been a couple of stressful days around here leading up to the 4th, but we finally have some information to share:

OUR HOUSE HAS SOLD!   We had a showing on Friday morning and they submitted an offer on Friday afternoon.  We countered and they countered and we finally all agreed… But we weren’t convinced that this was really going to happen yet, since our last offer fell through after the home inspection.  So, the inspection was Wednesday morning and all they wanted added was a simple $40 addition to the home warranty for the water softener.  Whew!  We were totally floored!  I mean, very very very happy, but I was still really surprised that they didn’t find anything else to complain about after the inspection…  Especially since the last one pulled out after the inspection–we were starting to worry that there was something we didn’t know about this house!

funny faces!

At this point we are only waiting on the appraisal before we really breath a sigh of relief (which they say will happen in the next week or two).  And if there are no unforeseen crazy scenarios to thwart this process we are scheduled for an August 30th closing date.

Of course then we have the issue of needing to find a new house for us…. we did go house hunting this past weekend (after receiving the offer on Friday) and we found a PERFECT house that we loved.  It had been on the market less than a week and we made an offer that day (above list price) but we were outbid.  I’m bummed (because it was so awesome) but I also know that we need to be patient on God’s timing.  The last thing I want to do now is try to get ourselves into a house that we’re not meant to be after all this waiting to actually sell our current house!  So, I’ll continue to watch the market like a hawk and see what opens up.  I’m just sure the perfect house is out there just waiting to come on the market!  🙂

standing 4th of july

Oh, and Happy 4th of July!  We relaxed at home most of the day.  Chloe and I went to an afternoon parade with the Bakers and Jen, then we came home and watched Despicable Me, roasted S’mores in our fire pit and then watched the fireworks on T.V.  (Yup.  On T.V.  It works out better that way, since we don’t want to keep the kids up that late and we’re not big fans of mosquitoes.  😉 )  All in all a great day.

And the best part is having a messy house this morning and knowing I can keep it messy since we’re done with showings!!!!!!!

Happy (Late!) Father’s Day!

I seem to be behind the ball on every occasion this year… it seems to be most of my posts say “Happy (LATE) ______(fill in the blank)________! ”

Ah, well… I still mean all of my tardy wishes!

So, Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Dad!   I’m not as eloquent as many at writing just how meaningful it is to have you in my life, Dad, but I still treasure you.  🙂  I hope you had a splendid day!

In other news….. it’s not raining today!  Well at least not yet, anyway.  The kids were able to enjoy a whole morning of fun outside without getting wet!    And more importantly I was able to get a bunch of the laundry and bedding washed and even hung outside to dry in the sun.  It was great.  Washing bedding is always risky business when your house is on the market and you only have one nice comforter for each bed… what if there is a showing while everything is in the washer???!!   🙂

In house related news, the house that we saw in the very beginning and loved has come and gone again and is back on the market again (and almost $50,000 cheaper!).  Even though that rings an alarm of suspiciousness (I wish that was a word…) it’s still top on our list and it’s hard to watch it come and go again.  Slipping right through our fingers.  Sigh.  Oh, well.  God knows the desires of our hearts and he knows the house that will be perfect for us, so we just need to wait.

No showings this weekend–which felt weird.  We’ve had 10 showings just in the past 15 days.  But it has given us an opportunity to do a lot of things this past week:  trip to St. Cloud, trip to the beach, walking with a church friend a couple of times, trips to the park, etc.  So, I shouldn’t really complain.  All of the showings are forcing me to get out of the house and do stuff, anyway!  🙂

Showings, showings, and more showings

We had 2 more showings tonight–it seems that Wednesday’s and weekends are very popular for showings around here.  I checked back in my calendar, since it feels like we were “off the market” for so long, but we were only off for 2 weeks (exactly).  If felt like soooo  much longer.  So we were on for 1 week, off for 2, then back on for 2 so far.  Time really has a way of feeling exceptionally exaggerated or crazy short sometimes!  We have another showing tomorrow and another on Friday… that brings our grand total of showings to (drum roll……………….) TWENTY-SIX.

Isn’t that crazy?

We’ve had positive feedback though.  And we only need one person to love it.  So, we wait.

I’m looking forward to my summer schedule starting in a couple of weeks because it’s stressful to be teaching while there are showings.  My recital is less than 2 weeks away.  Yippie!
