More of Madison walking (Video)

Maddie has really taken off walking and is becoming increasingly hard for me to keep up with.  When she is on a mission (usually when she senses my studio door is open) she is off like a bullet.  The other day I swear I even saw her run a little.  So, for those of you who don’t live close, here’s another video of her parading her walking skills for us.  😉

Video of Madison Walking!

Here it is!  I finally got a decent video of Maddie walking.  Most of the other ones she would get distracted in the middle or fall and not get back up… ha!  A least in this one after she falls she does indeed get back up.  😉

Happy 1st Birthday Madison!

It’s hard to believe that one year ago (almost right now) I started to go into labor.  We had attended a birthday party that morning and then came home and had naps (yes, me too!) then Tim got ready to go to a Men’s night at church.  I remember he asked if he should go or not (at this point I was 3 days past due) and I said, “go ahead.  I’m sure I’ll be fine.”  Well, a couple hours later I called him up and said he needed to come home… 😉

We had a delightful time celebrating Maddie’s Birthday yesterday.  There was food, fun, laughter, balloons, gifts, a funny looking beehive cake and a delightfully happy one year old.

We went with a “Bee” theme.  It was so much fun to try and think of creative ways to use yellow and black.  Chloe and I had a fun time crafting things–she’s getting to be such a great helper now that she’s older!

Tim even managed to find her the most adorable yellow/black/white outfit for her big day.  Isn’t she cute?

And of course, there was fun and laughter while opening the gifts.  She was delighted by unwrapping the gifts and taking out the tissue paper–it was absolutely adorable and hilarious.  She would pull the tissue paper out of the bag and giggle uncontrollably.   I wish I had taken a video of it.  I can’t remember another one year old having so much fun unwrapping the stuff as she did!

First (tiny) ponytail!

I was able to get Maddie’s hair up into a (very tiny) ponytail the other day.  It’s so puny that it makes me laugh.   I vividly recall putting Chloe’s hair in ridiculously tiny ponytails on her head too–I’m pretty sure we called her Pebbles.  🙂

Happy early Birthday present, Maddie!

Tim and I had been discussing getting Madison a swing for her 1st Birthday coming up for a while now.  Whenever we visit a friend that has a toddler swing she LOVES it, so we decided it would be worth it to buy one.  Plus we have the added bonus of being able to use it for another kid in about a year–so we would get our money’s worth.  So, we started looking and the one we really liked was at Menards.  But the catch was the cost = $80.  While I love my children, and we would get our money’s worth, I was still having a hard time swallowing that cost.

Fast forward to this morning.

The kids and I had stopped in at Once Upon a Child (a used kids clothing/stuff store) to buy some shorts and swimsuits now that it’s officially summer.  I was standing by the dressing room door waiting for the kids to show me yet another pair of shorts and turned around to see a swing.  Not just any swing, but the EXACT swing I had been eyeing at Menards.  I looked it over and it was dirty but otherwise in stellar shape.  But wait!  I haven’t told you the cost!  (Wheeeeee!)

$10.

Yup!  TEN dollars!  I was ecstatic!

Needless to say I bought it and we installed it on the swing set this afternoon (I know, it’s a little early for her Birthday, but let’s be serious… she doesn’t know the difference.  😉  )  And she LOVES it!

Bathtime Rehab & other random things…

It’s hard to believe by looking at the picture that she needs bathtime rehab.  But what you can’t see is the 10 minutes leading up to getting her to actually sit in the sink… 😉  I’m just delighted that it’s going better.

Only one more day of teaching and then I’m on summer break!  This week has been exceptionally busy just getting ready for the recital and wrapping up loose ends here and there.  Plus I forget that I do everything at a slightly slower pace when I’m pregnant.

Speaking of slower pace, yesterday morning I decided to take a walk to a friends’ house to drop off a few things we had borrowed.  It didn’t seem like very far in my head when I left……… 2 hours and 5 miles later I was regretting my decision.  By the time we rounded on mile 4 my hips hurt so bad I was down to a pathetic saunter.  I forgot that I’m limited when I’m pregnant.  In my defense of it taking 2 hours, we did stop to talk to my friend when we got there AND I let Josiah play at a park near home since he was so tired too.

Chloe only has 5 days of school left.  It’s very exciting!

Madison’s aversion to water

Something clicked in Maddie’s brain this week (in a bad way) that has her suddenly afraid of water.  There was really no reason or event that sparked it.  I can recall the exact moment this past week when she decided she didn’t like the water–I was filling up her bathtub and she was happily and excitedly standing next to the tub waiting to hop in, and out of the blue she just turned to me and started whining and clinging.  But seriously, nothing had happened!  It was the strangest thing… At first I thought it was a fluke that she cried through that bath, so I gave her another a few days later, but again crying ensued.  So this weekend I pulled out the kiddie pool and all the kids sat in there with her in hopes of making it more fun…

This was the result…

maddie doesn't like the water R

Yup.  Sh’es crying/whining here.  It was not a success.  The other two had a fantastic time, but Maddie pretty much just cried and scrambled to get out of the water.  It’s a conundrum.

I do remember Chloe going through a bathtime aversion phase as well just a little bit older than Maddie is now.  I wonder if it’s just a stage?  But if so, why didn’t Josiah go through it?
