Something clicked in Maddie’s brain this week (in a bad way) that has her suddenly afraid of water. There was really no reason or event that sparked it. I can recall the exact moment this past week when she decided she didn’t like the water–I was filling up her bathtub and she was happily and excitedly standing next to the tub waiting to hop in, and out of the blue she just turned to me and started whining and clinging. But seriously, nothing had happened! It was the strangest thing… At first I thought it was a fluke that she cried through that bath, so I gave her another a few days later, but again crying ensued. So this weekend I pulled out the kiddie pool and all the kids sat in there with her in hopes of making it more fun…
This was the result…
Yup. Sh’es crying/whining here. It was not a success. The other two had a fantastic time, but Maddie pretty much just cried and scrambled to get out of the water. It’s a conundrum.
I do remember Chloe going through a bathtime aversion phase as well just a little bit older than Maddie is now. I wonder if it’s just a stage? But if so, why didn’t Josiah go through it?
When Kristen was about 16 months we started swimming lessons with her. The lessons were every day for half an hour for 2 weeks, and i was in the pool with her. That first week was H A R D! Kristen cried pert near the entire time she/we were in the water. I said to Don at the end of the first week that if the 2nd Monday started the same we would be done! It was too difficult. Low and behold, Monday morning we got into the pool and she loved it. The rest is history. 🙂
I don’t remember going through anything like that with you guys, but that was a long time ago. As long as you don’t make a big deal out of it, I’m sure she’ll just grow out of it. After all, she has Chloe and Josiah obviously enjoying it and serving as good examples.
