Christmas Shopping!

I’ve braved the crowds this week to finish up some last minute Christmas shopping.  It really wasn’t bad until last night.  I had one more item to run out and pick up for Josiah and it was CRAZY–it felt like Black Friday all over again.  🙂  But I wasn’t in a hurry so I just let the crazy people scuttle around me as I meandered through the stores.  This year we did our shopping a little later (and a lot online) so it hasn’t really felt like Christmas so me until now.  Plus now that we have snow I feel much more festive as well.

Yesterday I was going to head up to visit Shannon but Tim came down with something yucky, so I had to stay home.  I was bummed but I’m glad to report that Tim is feeling a lot better today.  He’s actually eating real food again this morning!  I’m just glad that he got it yesterday and not closer to Christmas.  We think it was perhaps food poisoning because there weren’t many other symptoms which leaves me hopeful that no one else will catch it.

Tomorrow (or more likely “today” when you read this post!) we’re heading to St. Cloud for Tim’s side Christmas.  Chloe is quite excited to see all of her cousins –she reminded me again as she was going to bed tonight… 🙂  I’m excited to hang out with everyone and enjoy some festive food!  I’m sure I’ll have a few pictures to post soon!

Before I go, here is a funny picture of Josiah waiting anxiously for the cookies to bake.  I thought it was so funny how he kept peering in to check on them.  He’s a hoot these days!

ooooooooooh.... cookies......!

Guess who’s FINALLY done with work?

Yup, you guessed it:  TIM!

He had an extra long work season this year–extending all the way into December!  But yesterday was finally his first official day off.  I think he would have been more excited if he didn’t have to run errands all morning and then help with two very crabby (and loud) kiddos yesterday… haha!  But such is life!  😉

The kids are just soaking up having him home.  It’s very adorable.  You would think they never see him by the way they cling to him–which, of course, is not true.  But they cling nonetheless.

Now we’re (okay, mostly me) adjusting to having everyone home again and our new rhythm of daily life.  I can’t believe it’s already the craziness of the holidays and Tim is just now getting off!  My recital is next weekend already!  Sheesh!  Where did the time go?

One last batch of random Thanksgiving pictures! :)

We played with glow sticks with the kids.  That’s what the funny colored light pictures are, in case you were wondering. 🙂

Thanksgiving Family Photos

Nathan & Amy (Ethan, Audrey & Isaac)

Luke & Krista (& Mae) They really like the serious look. Mae really liked her shoes. 🙂

Kylene & Justin (doesn't she look super tan?)

Us! I just realized it looks like we meant to match--and we totally didn't!

Chloe really wanted a picture with Audrey--aren't they adorable?

Fritzes looking surprised! I just love this one... 🙂

More Thanksgiving Pictures!

You should know that I had 280 pictures on my camera by the time I came home on Sunday night… of course, there were probably over 100 weird or fuzzy ones!  But that still gives me a lot of pictures to share–so be ready for a few days of pictures!  🙂

Kylene & Justin made an enormous Thanksgiving meal! See all the food?!

The other side of the table--Tim looks very excited, doesn't he? 😉

Me and Baby Mae! (I just got back from Black Friday shopping, which is why I look so tired...hehe!)

Baby Mae being silly... 🙂 She is such a delightful baby--so content! It was wonderful to finally get to hold her!

Nathan was telling the kids stories--I love Isaac's face!

Thanksgiving was fun!

And on a totally random side note before I post pictures:  In case I forget to let anyone in my family know–we discovered that Chloe has pink eye today.  I’m VERY sorry if we’ve infected any of you while you were here… 🙁

Now onto a picture or two!  I’ll post more tomorrow!

Thanksgiving 2012: one big happy family!

Surprised!

Chloe and Isaac had a great time playing together...

Bumpa and the older Grandkids made candy turkeys!

Luke and Krista and the newest little member, Mae!

4. I am thankful for our house.

It’s easy in the midst of a house hunting to quickly forget how luck we are to own a house in the first place.  I am truly thankful to have this house–it has served us well for a long time.  We have fabulous memories linked to living here that we will forever remember.  Our kids will remember “our first house” and “our tiny yard.”  🙂  We’ve done a lot of experimenting and learning with home repairs in this house–some worked just like we planned and others, not so much.  It was a learning experience in opening up 100 year old walls.  You just never know what you’re going to find!

But mostly I’m thankful for the comfort and security of knowing this is our home.  This is where we feel safe and can be completely ourselves.  I love it.

This was taken in 2005--how often do you step back and take a picture of your house? Not very often I guess!

3. I am thankful for shopping carts that fit both kids.

I admit that I scoffed at those silly shopping carts before I had two kids.  You know the carts: the ones with a giant race car on the front with a steering wheel and everything.  Or at target they have two huge bucket seats attached to the front.  I said to myself, “My goodness, why do you need to cart around your kids in that?  Can’t they walk?”

And then on days like today I laughed at my ridiculousness as I grabbed a red race car cart to make my way through the grocery store.  And boy, was I ever thankful for that cart.  It was crazy busy.  And I was on  my last fuze–after making our way through Target and missing lunch and then discovering JD had leaked out of his diaper and I didn’t bring a change of clothes.  So, as I walked through the store (with one child missing pants!) I smiled at the joy of having them contained.  🙂

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life.

2.  I am thankful for laughter.

We are a jolly family.  We laugh A LOT.  It seems that almost anything can make us laugh around here… a silly face, an odd sound, a funny story, an awkward fall, a delicious cookie we jokingly fight over, etc, etc, etc!   And I love it.  I love laughing.  Most of my favorite memories involve laughter.  I enjoying letting my students laugh during their lessons–even allowing them tell me jokes and stories that tickle their funny bones.  And why not?  Why not laugh?  Embrace your silly side and let loose today!
