Beach, Boat & Bed

Beach: Today Chloe and I met up with Kristen, the kids and Jennifer at the beach near our house.  We had a small picnic lunch and then enjoyed the warm water and sunny day.  This was the first time I had seen Chloe actually go in and enjoy the water.  She and the cousins had a fantastic time playing in the sand, getting muddy, splashing in the water, digging holes, balancing on water noodles, etc.  And it was the perfect day to be outside.

Boat:  After enjoying the beach for a while Tim came out with the boat (he had a meeting after church so he couldn’t come to the beach at the same time).  Chloe has been asking me for days to go back out on the boat, and I wanted to make sure we got her back out again since she was actually asking to go again.  We packed up all the beach stuff and made out way over to the dock and helped Tim unhook the boat.  He went to park the truck and trailer and the rest of us worked on getting the kids in life-jackets.  Jen drove us slowly around for a little bit while we waiting for Tim.  However, when Tim came back, the boat was suddenly making a very annoying high pitched noise–definitely a noise of “something-is-wrong” so… before we could even get out on the lake and enjoy the boat, we had to pack it all back up and go home.  A big huge bummer.  🙁  Tim looked at it again tonight and it appears the engine is not cooling properly, so we’ll have to figure out to get that fixed…

Bed:  Today was a bit of a grouchy day for the Friesen household since none of us got quite enough sleep last night.  The “big-girl bed” transition is not going as smoothly as I had hoped.  Mind you, we’re not giving up!  It will just take a few more days to adjust.  Last night she woke up and came running into our room yelling “It’s okay, it’s okay” (her way of telling us she’s scared) at 2:00.  It took TWO hours for her to fall asleep again… and then she woke up early too…sigh.  But I’m clinging to the hope that she will get this eventually.  She will.  She has to…

Yes, she will get it eventually. All toddlers do, and she isn’t too young. You guys came running into our room when you were frightened in the middle of the night until you were very old. We just let you sleep on the floor by our bed, which you seemed content with.

What an adorable picture! I love it!

It’s so funny how my definition of a beach has changed since I moved to the coast. When I think of a beach, I think of wide open water and sandy shores, both of which go on and on for miles. 🙂 And then I see pictures of a lake and realize, “Oh! Yeah, that’s a beach, too.”

And it’s so weird that Chloe’s gotten scared now that she’s in the other bed. I’ve been puzzling over that one since you mentioned it the other day. Did you have to lower the hight of the mattress when you changed it? Because I wonder if just the different shapes that the night-light makes are what’s freaking her out. I wonder if one of those glow-in-the-dark toys (remember gloworm?) would help her.

    Good luck with that!
