This afternoon I spent a few hours doing some yard/garden work.

My first order of business was to mow the lawn.  But it wouldn’t start.  I had anticipated this problem since I had a little trouble starting it at the end of the mowing season last year.  But after a bit of manly muscle from my wonderful hubby, it was up and going.  Hopefully it will cooperate for the rest of the summer though… I discovered that I have a hard time pulling the starter fast enough now that I’m getting bigger!

I think the lawn looks so green now that its mowed.  🙂

I also worked on the flower beds for a while.  I’m quite pleased with how many flowers are popping through this Spring.  Every year I try to buy one or two perennials but they are expensive so it’s taken a few years to actually accumulate very many.  And I thought ahead this year and bought tomato cages for my peonies to help support the weight of the flowers.  I’m excited to see how well they work.  I know it’s not very impressive, but here is what it looks like after all my hard work…

It’s really hard to tell, but the climbing climatis flowers are actually already starting to make their way up the lattice.  Those just might be my favorite flowers in our side garden when they’re blooming.  🙂

I also started to work on the front planter but pooped out before I finished.  I always forget how HUGE that planter is… I only made it half way so I’ll have to finish that later.
