Writing about all the big & little things

Oh, my aching back…

Two weeks ago our neighbor’s lawn mower mysteriously broke down so she asked if I could mow it last week since it was getting so long (and the repair shop said it would be 1-2 weeks before it was fixed).  I agreed, on the stipulation that I could actually get ours to start… ours is starting to get a little persnickety these days.  But I tried and, sure enough I was able to get it going, so last Tuesday I mowed their very long lawn.

Then this weekend we were chatting again and she said their mower still wasn’t fixed so she asked if I could mow it again.  I said sure.  I didn’t have time yesterday so that brought me to today–one week from when I mowed it last.   You wouldn’t think it would be too bad after only a week, but you would be wrong.  It was ridiculously long and damp because of the humidity today, which when combined is an awful combination.  And I couldn’t wait until this evening b/c I teach, so I just plowed through.  It ended up taking me over 2 1/2 hours to do their lawn b/c my mower kept getting clogged or not cutting properly.  I literally mowed every swipe twice.  By the time I finished my back was killing me.  I came home, quick fed Chloe a very late lunch, put her down for a nap, showered and then collapsed (and accidentally fell asleep sitting in my chair for 20 min!).  My body just isn’t able to keep up these days.  Chloe, on the other hand, had a delightful time playing with the neighbor lady and their golden retriever the whole time I mowed.

Of course, the nice thing about mowing their lawn is that I get to sit in my studio and look out and admire how nice it looks, so it’s not all bad.  🙂  And I told her if their mower isn’t back by Saturday, I would strongly recommend doing it again so it’s not so long next time.

Is your neighbor physically unable to mow her lawn? I’m trying to figure out why your neighbor would ask someone who is almost 8 months pregnant to mow her lawn if she could borrow your mower and do it herself 🙂 That was really nice of you to do that for her!
