When we came home from the hospital with Chloe and JD they sent us a sleepsack. It’s basically a sleeping bag with arm holes. But it’s a fantastic alternative to trying to put a blanket on a baby (especially a wiggly baby). This way it keeps him warm but I’m not concerned with it covering his face. He can wiggle and pound his feet all he wants and when he lays his feet back down the sleepsack goes right with him.
The problem we had was our monster-of-a-boy. He outgrew his nice hospital sleepsacks very quickly and I could buy them on line in a much bigger size but they were pricey.
So……. I said to myself, “I’m crafty. I could make that.” 🙂
And I did.
I actually worked on the first one when Kylene and Justin were here over Christmas (that’s how behind I am in writing this post!). It took me a while to get it figured out (since I’m not, um, let’s say particularly SKILLED in the art of sewing….) but I finally got it to work. It zips closed, bottom to top, and I even put a little velcro strap across the top of the zipper so it won’t rub his chin. So fancy, right?
I found the fleece on SUPER clearance just after black Friday so they were about $3-4 a piece. I’ve now made him 2 of them, so I can always have a clean one available. And, since I made it myself, I was able to make it extra long so it will last for a while. At least I hope!

Nicely done Erica! You’ll have to show me how to do that. And now you have a great gift for baby showers!
It is very nice, I can say from personally seeing it! Although JD didn’t smile at me when he saw it coming. He must know it means bedtime already. That would make a great baby shower gift. Maybe even a couple in increasing sizes.
That looks like a great idea! I had never even heard of a sleepsack until I saw his at Christmas.
