Fruit Frenzy: Day 4 ~ Red Mango
Well, I finally discovered a fruit that I don’t like. At all.
Apparently I don’t like mangoes. They’re a bit tricky to cut since they have a big oval pit, so I made sure I was prepared for that… and at first cut I noticed that they smell a bit like pine to me. Unfortunately I thought the fruit tasted a bit like “sweet pine” as well which wasn’t much to my liking. I did manage a few bites before throwing in the towel, but I guess mangoes aren’t for me. It’s a bummer too, because they are such a beautiful fruit!
They weren’t terribly pricey, although more than your basic fruit: $0.99 per fruit.
Aren’t you having fun learning about all these fruits? I thought so!!! 😀
Recap: Mango
~~tasted like sweet pine
~~ cantaloupe texture
~~ $0.99 per fruit
~~ not buying again
Mangoes can be tricky. If they’re not ripe enough, they really don’t taste very good. In Thailand, we ate mangoes every day and they were wonderful! It’s been a bit hit and miss here in MN, though.
I agree, Kristen! Mangos in Thailand are very different than they are here. 🙁 The ones I ate and loved were all yellow, though, so I wonder if that’s part of the issue…
I agree with you, Erica. The mangos i have tried were not at all to my liking, so i don’t eat them. But someone told me that canned mangos are really good, so I might try that. They would have to be ripe if they are canned. But that piney taste was too weird for me. I want fruity.
