Writing about all the big & little things
On Wednesday Chloe had her “Art Fair” at Preschool. Some of the bigger art projects they have been working on throughout the year were on display in their “Museum” around the gymnasium. I wasn’t able to go (since I was teaching–go figure) but Tim went and took a bunch of pictures for me. But then yesterday when I dropped Chloe off for school again the teacher let Chloe walk me through the gym to show me all of her art before they took it all down later that afternoon. Chloe was obviously pleased with all of her creations (as she should be!) and it was fun to see her art especially next to the art of her classmates.
And I just love he little program that they each got to take home…
I made green smoothies the other weekend when Stacy came up to visit and the kids saw me making them–I hadn’t realized that it had been so long since I made them last. I wasn’t in a very “health conscious” mood when we lived in the rental house and then I just got out of the habit of making sure I have spinach on hand… so months have gone by with no smoothies.
Well, they were ecstatic to have them again. So for snack this morning I surprised them with another green smoothie. Let me tell you, you would think I was giving them frosting from a can, they love it so much. 😉
It makes me happy.
Chloe got to go to her Kindergarten open house last night! She and Tim listened to the Principle talk for a little bit, saw the classrooms, met the teachers, took a short bus ride and she even got to pick out a free book! Needless to say she had a VERY good time and is super excited for the fall.. (Tim said she was quite the social butterfly, but does that really surprise anyone? 😉 )
I can’t believe she’s going to be gone all day next year at school… the house is going to be so quiet with just Josiah!
We were supposed to get a ton of snow last night but it didn’t actually start snowing until about 5 this morning and it’s still snowing now. It was a bit disappointing to wake up and not see the expected mountain of snow outside, but it’s still very beautiful. And the most important detail here is that it’s NOT beastly cold! It’s actually quite pleasant. In fact Tim is out right now with his snowblower driving around town clearing driveways as I type this.
So, the kids were able to put on their snowpants and grab their shovels and go outside for a while–they really enjoyed it.
Recently I’ve allowed Chloe to start playing educational games on my computer as a reward for doing tasks around the house.  She loves playing each game and then earning a “page in her sticker book” that she can then decorate how she wants and print. So, it’s part screen time and part art time I guess. The funny part is that Josiah just loves to sit and watch her. He generally doesn’t even try to touch the computer or mouse–just watches. I can hear Chloe asking him what game she should pick next so she’s involving him which I think is so cute.
Speaking of Chloe: It’s come to our attention recently about Chloe being a “sore loser.” We’re trying to figure out how to instill the idea that not everything is always about her and what she will “get.” It’s tough to teach a child to be less selfish when we live a selfish world. And, frankly, I remember being VERY selfish at her age too. There are many (many!) pictures of me as a child sitting next to the Birthday boy/girl with a sour expression on my face because it wasn’t my Birthday and they weren’t MY gifts.  It’s crazy how many of my traits I can see in Chloe when she obviously didn’t even know me as a child. It’s a bit scary sometimes.
So, we’re talking more about being generous and trying to focus on how giving makes other happy and that in turn makes us happy. It’s a tough and slow process.
Anyway, that’s some of the conversations going on in our house these days. 🙂
After yesterdays picture it got me thinking about writing more about both kids specifically… especially for those who don’t get to interact with her much right now. And tomorrow I’ll write about Josiah.
These are some interesting things about Chloe right now:
♫ She loves helping with our morning list (crossing off completed items)
♫ She is ALWAYS humming or singing. Especially when she eats.
♫ Her favorite color is definitely “Rainbow”
♫ If she could, she would wear a dress (or skirt) every day.
♫ She is a bit bossy. Yes, she’s a firstborn.
♫ She still often takes an afternoon nap. That girl just needs a lot of sleep!
♫ She likes to play “puppy trainer” with Josiah making him walk around on all fours and telling him what to do. (He happily pants and follows her)
♫ She really dislikes eating carrots.
♫ She loves office supplies (paper, tape, scissors, etc.).
♫ Her favorite food is french fries.
♫ She is very helpful when she wants to be.
♫ She will sit in her room and draw while listening to Adventures in Odyssey for hours.
♫ She is unbelievably affectionate.
♫ And loves verbal praise. Just last week I told her I would love her forever, no matter what she does, and she started crying and hugged me, saying, “that’s just to wonderful to hear you say!”
♫ She enjoys exercising with me (for a short while).
♫ She likes putting things “in order”
♫ She loves drawing.
♫ She can just about whistle.
♫ Her favorite show right now is My Little Pony…
♫ She is good at cleaning.
♫ She really wants to be able to read.
♫ She really loves her brother, even though she often gets annoyed by him…
