Writing about all the big & little things
Last night was Halloween. I wasn’t sure if I was going to take Chloe & Josiah trick-or-treating or not but since all my students after supper cancelled I decided that we would go out for a little bit. Jen came and dressed up and went with us. Oh, and a family from church who has kids about the same age as Chloe wanted to swing by and say hi to Chloe, so they came with us for a couple of blocks as well. All in all, it was fun. Josiah wasn’t crazy about sitting in the wagon–he would much rather be pulling it. No, scratch that. He would rather be pushing it backwards. So you can see why we had a battle about that. 🙂
We made our rounds to say hi to all the neighbors and then made our way home. We were only out for 1 hour (and didn’t go very far at all!) but going up and down every sidewalk to every door with little kids is quite time consuming. By the time we got home EVERYONE was tired and ready to be done. Which was good, because Chloe said she didn’t feel good and laid down on the couch. Then as we were getting the kids into bed she threw up… So, I guess she was right!
So, both kids are now sick. 🙁 I’m working at disinfecting the house before my lessons start coming. She may have caught the Croup that they say Josiah has, but Tim and I are not convinced that’s what it is. But who are we to say differently…? Either way, they are sick and, Croup or not, they need a couple of days to lay low and get better.
I’ll post pictures of our pumpkin party tomorrow!
The other day I let Chloe use our nice camera for the very first time. It’s an expensive camera and I didn’t want her to think it was a toy or something she could handle lightly, so she normally doesn’t get to touch it. But we were snuggling on the couch (this was the same night we took the silly pictures as a family, that I posted a while ago) and I thought it might be a good time for her to try. We explained how she would be able to use it and hang it around her neck etc. and this was the product. I don’t think it’s too bad for a 4 year old. 🙂 We bought her a cheap child’s camera for Christmas last year, but it takes really awful pictures. Most of them turn out blurry or dark. But it really doesn’t seem to slow her down though–she just loves capturing everything about everyday life. And, let me tell you, she takes pictures of EVERYTHING! Well, until the camera fills up and she has to wait for me to clear space… 🙂 Which usually takes a while for me to remember to do…
We live in a society with camera’s literally at our fingertips all the time. Virtually every phone now-a-days comes with a camera, and sometimes a pretty nice one! It’s interesting knowing she is going to grow up enveloped with so many pictures. Take me for example: I take pictures of vacations, new clothes, trips to the park, beautiful weather, funny signs, cute hair, yummy food, animals, flowers, carved pumpkins, and countless other things! It makes me wonder if the value of pictures will be less since there will be more of them around or if she’ll remember more from her childhood because it was captured “on film.”
Yesterday Tim & I took the kids to the Renaissance Festival here in town. We had been given 2 free tickets and we discovered that the kids would be free–so why not? Chloe had a fantastic time seeing all of the animals and princess stuff. Josiah was a bit fussy and developed a really weird rash 1/2 way through the trip (that mysteriously went away as mysteriously as it began… we have no idea. Maybe he’s allergic to hay?) but was otherwise fine. We decided the best option was to take the single jogging stroller for him to ride in, which was a smart idea since we did a lot of walking. I found that I had a better time than normal since we took our time and I was excited to show Chloe all the fun, whimsical things. Plus we enjoyed some ridiculously expensive but delicious food (pickles, chocolate covered pecans, turkey legs, funnel cakes, etc… ) and food makes me happy. 🙂
Here are some pictures from our adventure!
We had a great day yesterday celebrating Chloe’s 4th Birthday. Here were a few highlights from our day:
* Awesome birthday crown (generously loaned to us from her cousin Allison for the day)
* Chocolate Chip Pancakes for breakfast
* Special Birthday Questionnaire
* First day of “Pre-school” with me
* Set up and helped me with the garage sale for the morning
* Made a pink heart shaped cake
* Lots of lovely phone calls and messages (which Chloe just LOVED)
* A trip to the park
* Celebrated turning 4–by having gum and lettuce! She decided a while back that when she turned 4 she would eat lettuce, so that’s just what we had! And now she can have gum, too. 🙂
I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was a fantastic thing to implement with Chloe. It’s simply a bottle with glitter glue/glitter/water and then the lid glued on. When she needs to calm down or have a time out she has to take a bottle and shake it up then sit with it on the steps until the glitter settles to the bottom. She loves it. And it works very effectively. 🙂
I actually find the bottles quite relaxing myself. It’s somehow very satisfying to create chaos by shaking it up and then watching it all settle peacefully. 🙂
~ pictures of the time out bottles coming tomorrow!
~ it was really pleasant weather wise today.
~ Josiah is SO much happier now that he’s walking and mobile now. He was delightful today. Such a happy boy!
~ I’m excited for our anniversary coming this week.
~ I’m hoping this week is a little cooler–for Tim’s sake!
~ Chloe is working on her scissors cutting skills and getting pretty good.
~ Josiah can say “more please” in sign language at meals. It’s SO. ADORABLE.
~ Chloe’s piggy tales curl into a big spiral. It’s also SO. ADORABLE. 🙂
~ I bought some lemonade this week but neglected to note that it was perishable and needed to be stored in the refrigerator… so our fridge is rather full of lemonade right now. Ooops! Hehe…
~ Chloe’s new morning job is to water the flowers outside with the hose.
~ I love that Chloe is old enough for responsibilities now! 😉
