Writing about all the big & little things

Welcome Baby Samantha!

Shannon had her baby this morning–yay!  She was 39 weeks along today so she had a scheduled C-Section.  This was her longest pregnancy out of the three, I’m sure it felt like an eternity to her!  This has been a very tumultuous pregnancy with scare after scare, and then bed rest and restrictions, etc.  I am so happy that little Baby Samantha is finally here–and that everyone is doing great!

No pictures yet, sorry.  I won’t be able to get up to see her until later this week…

The search for a baby grand piano continues…

I know I’ve written about this before, but the church I have had my recitals at in the past just lost their baby grand piano last Spring.  Which left me in a predicament.  I don’t own a baby grand piano, so I feel like my students should have the opportunity to at least get to play on one at the recitals.

So, the search began.

And in a city as large as Shakopee, I was stunned by the lack of baby grand pianos.  I did manage to find one at the Junior high, but it would raise my rental almost $200.  Then there was another church that I found that had one that we could use, but it was tucked in a corner with bad seating and I wouldn’t be allowed to move anything–oh, and it was another $25 over what I had been paying AND we can’t do any type of food there.  So the search continued.

Until today.  I decided to branch out (since apparently Shakopee is lacking in this area) to nearby cities.  Lo and behold, I found an acceptable location just over the river in Chaska.  I am going to have our Christmas recital at the Chaksa Community Center Theater.  It’s a cute little theater with a baby grand piano that seats 200 people and then there is a side room I can also rent for us to do a cookie reception afterwards.  We will have to be careful not to dawdle too much, because I pay by the hour, but it was able to give me everything I needed.   It did end up costing $50 more than what I had been paying, but with being able to get the piano I wanted plus an additional space it was the best option for now.  So, we’re going to try it and see what happens.  If we don’t like it we won’t use it again.

For now, I’m just so relieved to have SOMETHING figured out.  🙂

Announcement!

Photo shoot

That’s right!  We are happy to announce that we are expecting baby #3 in late June of 2015.  We had a photo shoot this morning and finally told the kids.  I’ll have to upload that video because it was funny how Chloe didn’t believe us.  🙂  But once she figured out we were telling the truth she was excited.

The MASSIVE snowstorm…. missed us by *that much!*

Well, I haven’t seen any pictures yet on Mom’s site, but she said they had a significant amount of snow yesterday afternoon.  We have this much:

Can you tell how it doesn’t even actually cover the grass?

Yeah, so… not really the big 12 inches they were expecting.  At least here.  I was watching the radar and we were literally on the line where the snow stopped.  So we mostly just got sleet most of the day.  Yuck.  I would rather have a bunch of snow than ice.

Why are Thursdays so hard for me to remember to post?

For some reason, I consistently seem to run out of time on Thursdays.  It’s weird.  But it seems to be consistent at least.

Today I tried to run some errands with Josiah and they ended up taking about 3 times longer than I expected and I didn’t want to just cave and come home (so Josiah could get down for his nap).  It’s so hard for me to come back home when I’m already out and I would need to make another trip out again later if I go back.  So, we pushed on (and on and on) and he got more and more fidgety and goofy… but we did it!  🙂

I was trying hard to get things done today since Chloe is off of school tomorrow.  I love having her home, but it’s a bit easier to try and get things done out and about with only one kid in tow.

Wanna hear something fun and exciting?  How to Train Your Dragon 2 comes out on DVD on Tuesday!  Whoo Hoo!!!!  We have been anxiously awaiting this day for months in this household!

New Front Door!

That’s right folks!  We are the happy owners of a brand-spanking-new front door!

One that actually opens and closes without having to karate kick it…  One that doesn’t whistle loudly when it’s windy…  One that isn’t rotted up the side!  Whoot Whoot!

We had a friend from church come and install it a couple weeks ago, and I’ve been putting off painting it, so I finally got around to that this weekend.  So, now we can enjoy some pretty pictures.  Actually, it’s not very impressive at all, since it’s just a door.  And it looks almost exactly like the last one… but still, it’s exciting.

Oh, and you’ll see the left side of the door is still missing… Somehow they sent two right side trim pieces and no left side.  Grrrr…. so I had to go back and they are resending the trim piece, but they told us it would take a few weeks.  Grrrr again…. And it’s the side that has the doorbell, so the wires are just hanging there…  but at least the rest is done!

Here is the finished product!

New Door!

New Door!

Oh and I should mention that we had to replace the entire door frame with side windows and all.  And it turns out they don’t sell them with such large windows on the side in the store–that’s a custom thing they do when they’re building the house… so I was a bit sad I had to opt for smaller windows along the side.  I really love light and the new ones are so much smaller.  But… at least it still has windows on the side and the window above the door (on the second level) still sheds a ton of light into the entryway.

A hole in our house!

A hole in our house!

Gearing up for an exciting day/night!

Tonight we are having all the cousins over to go trick-or-treating with Chloe and Josiah and then they are all having a sleep over here.  Fun, right?  I know!  I’m so excited for everyone to come and have a good time together.  I’ll take pictures (of course!) but I probably won’t have time to post them until later this weekend.  Right now I need to get the house cleaned up and ready for 7 kids + 4 adults to find a place to sleep!

A turn in the weather

Today is chilly.

Quite a bit cooler than the past couple of weeks.  We’ve had a wonderful Fall this year with dozens of delightfully warm and beautiful days, so walking to the bus this morning was a bit less enjoyable.  I was looking out the windows this afternoon and I realized the clouds and wind make it look like snow weather.  And believe it or not… it didn’t bum me out.

I do enjoy the first snowfalls of the season.  And as a whole I do enjoy snow–just not so much the continued cold.  Snow is so pretty and white.  And even though the days are shorter in the winter, the snow reflecting the sun makes it very bright outside when the sun is actually out.  🙂

But enough about winter…. How about one more adorable picture of us enjoying the beautiful fall weather… enjoying it before it’s gone for good!
